ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a dynamic and strategic business development professional to join our growing agricultural supply chain team. In this role you’ll spearhead our efforts in securing and expanding business relationships within the mid-market food industry sector. In addition to closing new business deals this role will also prioritize nurturing strategic customer relationships within the Government and Public-Private Partnership (PPP) space, often alongside the same mid-market food company targets. Aligned with B Corp principles, you are eager to contribute to an organization that prioritizes people and planet.
This is a full-time, exempt role reporting to the Senior Director, Agriculture & Carbon Markets. This position is open to candidates ideally based within a commutable distance of our offices including Portland, ME, New York, NY, San Francisco, CA or Portland, OR; where you'll enjoy a flexible hybrid working environment. Exceptional candidates based outside of the listed locations may also be considered. WHAT YOU’LL DO
In this multifaceted and highly collaborative position, you will play a key role in the growth of this division. You will have a significant impact on developing and managing new emission reduction projects in agriculture and related sectors. In addition you will engage with our Global Business Solutions team to implement strategies and programs to take urgent action on climate change. Key focus areas include the following:
- Develop strategy and accounts focused on a target list of approximately 40 food and beverage cooperatives, processors and traders.
- Create and manage business relationships with key accounts and lead direct outreach to targeted accounts
- Build strong relationships with prospects by positioning yourself and 3Degrees as a trusted and reliable industry resource
- Lead customer discovery to fully understand prospect needs and tailor 3Degrees solutions accordingly
- Deliver technical presentations to clearly and enthusiastically articulate 3Degrees’ value proposition with prospective clients and navigate the various partnership pathways including environmental commodity sales and co-development origination partnerships
- Close opportunities with a focus on multi-year strategic partnerships that positions 3Degrees as the trusted supply chain reduction partner
- Continue account management post initial sale by partnering with carbon operations and carbon origination teams to ensure successful execution with the goal of expanding relationships
- Develop a perspective on 3Degrees’ role within the public-private partnership space and develop a strategy to execute on the plan
- Build a plan for targeting accounts within the Government and PPP space. This includes driving activities that identify who has been provided access to public funds allocated by Congress and further develop a holistic plan to follow where these funds funnel to the private sector
- Contribute to building a leading scope 3 emissions reduction solution for our customers
- Attend events and other industry conferences to network and engage with accounts
- Serve as a ‘voice of the customer’ in your particular segment by communicating market opportunities, obstacles, and needs to senior leadership and other internal teams
ABOUT YOU
You are a seasoned sales professional with exposure to sustainability in the agriculture industry that also has experience selling into the government sector which includes involvement in selling to large private enterprises and USDA, NGOs and public funds. You bring an expertise in corporate climate strategy, agricultural supply chains, and the agriculture government grant landscape. We believe an individual with the following experience will have the best opportunity for success in this role:
- 5+ years of sales experience in an Enterprise level, land and expand sale
- Experience selling six-figure and above deals required
- Agriculture or climate experience is required
- Experience selling into the PPP sector which includes involvement in selling to large private enterprises, USDA, NGOs and public funds highly preferred
- Possess the ability and desire to adapt and pivot quickly based on learnings
- Proven track record of meeting or exceeding quota
- Experience with a complex sales environment that has a 90+ day sales cycle required
- Experience in livestock / dairy industry would be valued

HOW WE DEFINE SUCCESS
As a senior leader we will look to you to spearhead efforts in establishing 3Degrees as the leading authority in agricultural emission reductions within 3 years;
Within 30 days,
- Gain a thorough understanding of 3Degrees value proposition and offerings for this segment, and the intricacies of the agricultural supply chain and emission reduction origination project landscape
- Establish initial contact and build rapport with key prospects within the target list of food and beverage processors and traders
- Learn the fundamentals of how our commercial teams engage customers and an understanding of current offerings and engagements for Agriculture customers in both domestic and international markets
- Begin working cross functionally across 3Degrees, engaging and establishing relationships with key stakeholders including but not limited to; Carbon Markets, Business Partnerships, Marketing
Within 90 days,
- Conduct discovery meetings with at least 3-5 potential clients to understand their business needs and tailor 3Degrees' solutions accordingly
- Develop a robust sales pipeline with at least 1-3 qualified opportunities, showcasing clear steps towards closing deals
- Present a strategic plan for targeting accounts within the Government and PPP industry, including identifying potential public funds and partnerships
Within 6 months,
- Secure at least 1 new business deal with multi-year strategic partnerships in the food and beverage sector
- Represent 3Degrees at 2-3 key industry events or conferences, successfully engaging with assigned accounts and expanding the company's network
- Provide detailed feedback to senior leadership about market opportunities, challenges, and customer needs, influencing internal strategies and offerings
Within 12 months,
- Achieve or exceed annual sales targets, contributing significantly to the company's revenue growth through new and expanded client relationships
- Successfully manage and expand relationships post-sale, ensuring customer satisfaction and identifying opportunities for additional services
- Play a key role in building and launching a new offering for scope 3 emission reductions, establishing 3Degrees as a leader in this area and securing at least one major client for this service
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- Compensation: The starting base pay for this position is $120,000-$150,000 in the US. The total compensation package for the successful candidate in this role may exceed the base pay as it includes other incentive pay. The base pay is dependent upon many factors such as location, transferable or job-related skills, work experience, relevant training, business needs, and market demands. The base salary range is subject to change and may be modified in the future

- Supplemental Pay: this position may be eligible for discretionary bonus programs including the company’s profit sharing program and participation in a variable compensation program
