beautiful experience!
you have set a new benchmark of incomplete prototypes.
I would have liked opportunity to sit inside the mech and I was unable to break the gems. those are my only two nitpicks. do tell me what new ideas they triger for you.
keep up the good work.

whoa this looks so cool! The idea of controlling both the girl and the mech is very original I think, you're onto something here!

Interesting and nice looking prototype. Might want to look into changing LOD (level of detail) for objects, the WebGL does work but it takes awhile to load everything in. While loading, trying to rotate the camera towards the main side of the map freezes it and jumps real bad. I could've used it in my project too but I didn't have enough time to learn all about it. I had to decrease my texture detail by a lot to fit my project into a WebGL. I suggest changing the job to a sprint and about doubling the speed, for that much traversal, your character is really slow. I'm glad that shift is a toggle command and not a held command. Mech design is pretty cool.

I can't get over how insanely good that main menu/ui is. It's so satisfying to navigate. Excellent presentation all around, great sound design and music. I would love to see the gameplay get fleshed out more!

I like the concept, and I love the UI, character and mech designs, but I just didn't find much I could sink my teeth into. It's such a beautiful world, and I like the idea of controller the mech as a separate entity, but I wish there was more to do, or some other way to use the mech.

Developer(+1)

thanks for the feedback! I really fought with time hard, but alas barely made any content so its just a desolate desert for now 馃槅
if the mech had more uses this could be a great game indeed, I will surely wok on that aspect, many thanks!

Submitted

Yes, no doubt more mech interaction would make it really cool, but it was still a great concept to start with. Really unique, and it kinda gave that nostalgic feeling of walking around with your Digimon in Digimon World 1, so I appreciated it

Submitted(+1)

Aye, that looks pretty good. Didn't seem to like Firefox though, and the shaders took a while to compile and link it seemed, but otherwise it ran fine.

Developer

great to hear that! I personally tried it in Chrome, so Im happy to hear it works on other browsers, thanks a lot!

Submitted(+1)

I like the concept.
Would like to see where you take it in the future.

There is a noticeable difference from the art style for the player which leans more cartoon/anime vs the more realistic style of the environment, Try and see if you can find either a middle ground or lean more towards on direction.

Solid foundation for interesting game and mechanics, although not much in the way of activities or gameplay loop.

Screen resolution not sure if this is something that has to be edited in game but the default resolution is not ideal.

Quite large environment to move around and calming music.

thank you! you are quite perceptive! its true, I planned for a stylized game at first but swapped out the robot for another one I found because the old one was more "humanoid" and was quite janky when animated (even tho the new one is janky too xD) thats why only the girl is stylized, I use the MToon shader, and models I made with Vroid, I totally recommend!

Submitted

Stylization is a topic in and of itself (been looking into it). But Otherwise you should see some inspirations or references.

The atmosphere is amazing. I change my mind with Unity's ability to make games with graphic quality this high. Is it possible to build a game like this in unreal engine 5 but within 100 mb? My simplest build on unreal is around 200 mb and unable to play on web!

Developer(+1)

thank you! the secret is to keep the number of textures and assets low, and reuse as much stuff as possible, to keep library small and size minimal, Unreal still has better visual fidelity tho, but you're right! Unity advantage is in compactness! (but I think Godot is gonna steal that trophy soon 馃槅)

Submitted(+1)

Bit too much for my old girl to handle, but it's gorgeous and I really like some of the control ideas, especially not having to hold down shift the whole time to run and the satisfying thud of the mech's footsteps.

Developer

sorry to hear that! the desktop build should run much better try it if you can! btw the shift button is a toggle, press once and it will keep running! 馃槉

Man this is crazy. I would absolutely have played a full game based on this idea. Feels like less of a game and more of a tech demo atm unfortunately. But for what is in here, it's very well done!

Developer

Thank you! this barely qualifies as a tech demo 馃槅
I ran into many problems and time constraints but I can totally see the potential in such a concept, you encourage me to actually keep working on it, appreciate the support!

Dude please! Please keep working on it! It's an awesome idea!

Developer(+1)

I will try be best! You inspire me! 馃

This game is absolutely bonkers. I'm impressed such a visually polished game can run on a web browser of all things, even if there was a few seconds of delay in moving the character or camera on  my end. The menu UI looks straight out of a triple a title.  That said, I couldn't find out how to do anything with the crystals, and for me the mouse seems too sensative. I liked the ambient atmosphere and sountrack though, and the sound effects were very high quality.

Developer

thanks! I originally wanted to build with WebGPU in order to get maximum performance but due to browser support problems I had so switch back to WebGL, but I'm happy the game runs fine enough albeit not perfect, it hitches randomly probably due to memory allocation problems,
and the gameplay is literally incomplete so you can only command the Mech to break the crystals but there is no wining or a goal,
the menus are made with my custom UI framework! glad you loved it! I am considering bundling it up and making it an actual system to distribute 馃

I'm going to hold off on rating this until there's a downloadable version as, unfortunately, it runs really poorly on my browser.

Developer

Sorry to hear that! Do you need a windows or mac version ?

Developer(+1)

Hello I added a windows build, hope you enjoy it!

Submitted(+1)

Awesome, thank you. I've got to say this is incredibly visually impressive, I hope you continue to develop it.

Probably the best start menu I've seen in a jam game, and the music and whistling wind worked great together in the main game.

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks, the menu is made with my custom UI framework, really proud of it!

I'll try my best, thanks for the support! 馃

Controlling the mecha from the ground is a really good idea, I love it!
And even if there was little gameplay, I found walking around with the mecha and the music very relaxing.
Good job!

Developer

Thank you! Glad to see someone enjoying walking as much a me 馃槅

Submitted(+1)

Controlling mecha boots on the ground give quite unique feeling. Makes you appreciate the size of them. Wish there was more gameplay, but the experience was still memorable.
The graphics are amazing, had to turn down the resolution quite a bit though.

Developer(+1)

Glad you liked it! Sorry for the lag, I'm working on a desktop build !

HostSubmitted(+1)

Very impressive for a web game! I especially really liked the menu it was smooth and lovely to use. Awesome work.

Developer (2 edits)

Thank you! Really spent my time on the UI, especially proud of the gradient Mech jam logo!馃槉

Was not able to play - tried on Chrome, Firefox, and Edge. A unity popup saying that the browser does not support multithreading appeared. No multithreading settings were apparent in any of those browsers.

Holding off on rating until I am able to play.

Developer (1 edit)

Hello, sorry, a lot of people reported the same problem, I made the choice of building this game using WebGPU which is extremely experimental, that was a wrong choice, I am trying to fix this asap, sorry for my bad choices  馃様

Submitted(+1)

No need to apologize, I just wanted to be able to play the game you put a lot of effort into!

Developer (3 edits)

hello again, oh my this was a huge mess, I should not have targeted WebGPU for it literally has zero support on all browsers unless you turn on developer mode and mess with a lot of settings, I switched to WebGL 2 but the game still didn't work, after some investigation it seems that the multithreading feature is part of WebAssembly 2024 which I targeted in order to use WebGPU, but now that I downgraded to WebGL I can safely remove support for it and use stable, legacy version, the problem is that the game now lags a lot because I was trying to make big environmment run in browser and I was counting on WebGPU to do the heavy lifting and help run a big game, but now the game is struggling to run properly and the browser cant run the game because of an "out of memory" error, so I was forced to further downgrade the graphics of the game, even tho my point was to make good graphics xD

tldr, I optimized the game to the max, and built for WebGL which should work on everything
I swear all of this shit just for a small scene and a walking character, I do not even have woking gameplay xD
but you can enjoy the music by me!

sorry for yapping!

I think it looks amazing! It is pretty impressive that you got this down to be playable in a browser!
