Artist: Katsuji Koizumi (1883-1945) Title: Daurian Redstart Katsuji Koizumi (1883-1945) was a Tokyo born artist working in a traditional style.  Award winning, he received his first major award for his work "Saien Ugo" (Colorful Garden after the Rain) from Bunten in 1917 and another award for "Tousei" (Sound of the Ocean Waves) from Teiten in 1931. He was a professor at his Tokyo alma mater - Tokyo University of the Arts. He is especially known for his bird-flower pictures as well as landscapes with fine brush strokes.   This print is from "Chorui Shasei Zufu" (Lists of Live Sketches of Birds) which were published as a 4-volume series during 1927 to 1938 with the cooperation of another artist (Shunko Tsuchioka (1891-1958).
