Chandler & Jeremy Quarles on Instagram: "Here’s the thing about historic kitchens—they didn’t look like this. 😉 Our inspiration for this home was late 19th/early 20th century colonial revival, and those kitchens would have been small, utilitarian rooms tucked in the back of the house or possibly disconnected completely. They would have had a freestanding cast iron range, an icebox and some furniture pieces like a pie safe and solid wood table. They would have never been a gathering place. Guests were entertained in formal dining rooms and living spaces. So when we create a kitchen in a historic renovation or historic-inspired new construction, we are looking for ways to nod to the nostalgia of the past—even as we design a space with modern appliances and plumbing and materials.
