Today is the national "Bóndadagur" day in Iceland. It marks the beginning of Þorri or "frozen snow month" and is the day of midwinter. Bóndadagur takes its name from "Bóndi" which in today’s Icelandic means farmer, but was a synonym for “husband” back in the day.
