Sheep farmer

Our sheep get their "annual haircuts" this Memorial Day weekend and OSV historians show the whole textile process – scouring and carding the wool, and spinning, knitting, and weaving. Sheep-shearing will be done throughout the weekend, and sheep herding demos are set for Sat. May 25. Details at www.osv.org. Do you know how much wool each OSV sheep produces? Today is the national "Bóndadagur" day in Iceland. It marks the beginning of Þorri or "frozen snow month" and is the day of midwinter. Bóndadagur takes its name from "Bóndi" which in today’s Icelandic means farmer, but was a synonym for “husband” back in the day. Bóndadagur was traditionally dedicated to the master of the house or farm, who was most often a working farmer. Being a sheep farmer in Iceland requires a great deal of passion and dedication.
