One of our clients recently finished a decking project in a Mlaibu home with our durable, beautiful, sustainable, and long-lasting ipe wood! What makes ipe the perfect wood for decking? Its natural oils and extreme density make it resistant to wrap, rot, splintering, scratching, termites, and insects. So, while the color will fade with time if no UV-protectant oil is applied, the stability and integrity of the wood will stay the same. Our ipe is FSC-certified, KD, and directly imported! Ipe is one of the most durable woods on the planet. So, while it does fade in color like any other wood, its structural integrity and stability doesn't falter. On the right, you'll see a faded ipe deck. On the left, an oiled ipe deck. Both of these are pretty in their own right, it's all a matter of preference. If you appreciate the original color of ipe, you can oil your deck every year or so, based on level of sun exposure.
