It is of our great pleasure and honor to welcome you to the 33rd IEEE Conference on Virtual Reality and 3D User Interfaces (IEEE VR), the most prestigious international event for the presentation of research/academia and industrial results in the broad areas of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality. Since 1993, IEEE VR has presented groundbreaking research and accomplishments by virtual reality pioneers: scientists, engineers, designers, and artists, paving the way for the future.
It is the first time to host the conference in Korea, which is somewhat overdue, considering that Korea has been one of the leading nations in advancing VR/AR and media research and development. In particular, the city of Daegu, where the conference will be held, is very much keen on becoming an industrial and technological hub city e.g. in VR/AR/XR, AI and semi-conductors. It is one of the largest and most historical cities in Korea, also boasting numerous tourist and cultural attractions including four UN heritage sites in the close vicinity. In addition, the capital city of Seoul is not too far either and Korea as a whole offers lots of “K-culture” to explore. EXCO, the venue, offers ample space and the most modern facilities for accommodating large-scale and professional events like the IEEE VR conference. Many exciting cultural and excursion programs are in preparation.
Our IEEE VR community is renowned for its creativity and innovation. In line with this, we are thrilled to follow up on the successful XR Gallery session in 2025, dedicated to artistic aspect and creative application of XR. To facilitate the effective idea presentation, the selected presenters will receive a modest financial support.
One of the new traditions of the IEEE VR conference is recognizing and practicing sustainability and environmental efforts, reflecting our commitment to making a positive impact on the world. Various related initiatives and actions are put in place or planned as such. This includes using eco-friendly materials for food and consumables wherever possible. IEEE VR is also firmly committed to accessibility, equity, and support programs, with the DEIA initiative involved from the very beginning of the organization. Additionally, the Student Volunteer (SV) program offers students the opportunity to participate actively in the conference. This year, the selection of SV has been particularly challenging for the SV chairs due to high demand, with over 300 submissions for 60 available spots.
Once again this year, the conference's scientific program is setting new records, and IEEE will offer a very rich and wide range of activities. First of all, you will be able to enjoy an ever-increasing number of high-quality workshops and tutorials on the first two days of the conference. Then, during the three days of the main event, our parallel tracks will allow you to enjoy not only the presentation of scientific papers, but also research demonstrations, posters, the 3DUI contest, the aforementioned XR Gallery, Doctoral Consortium, Future Faculty Forum, Panel Talks, and the numerous exhibitions. In addition, in an effort to associate ourselves with other closely related areas, a special session will be held to present some recent selected works from the IEEE Computer Graphics and Application journal. Also, IEEE Computer Society has been gracious enough to support a special Mentor-Mentee luncheon where about 250 mentors and mentees will get together and freely discuss, advise, guide, and exchange friendship.
As XR related institutions and companies are facing new technical and financial challenges, so we infinitely grateful to our sponsors whose generous contributions have helped this conference happen. Our sponsors include: the IEEE Visualization and Graphics Technical Community, Google, HDC Labs, Electronics and Telecommunication Research Institute (ETRI), Korea University (Superintelligence Research Center), Kyungpook National University, NVIDIA, Complexion, Sejong University (Extended Reality Research Center), Korea Electronics and Technology Institute (KETI), and. Springer. We are also very grateful for the local support from the Korea Tourism Organization, and the City of Daegu.
Finally, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all the committee chairs, reviewers and PCO staffs, who worked behind the scenes organizing the conference to be a success. We pay homage to them as they have sacrificed their time and energy to work together, look over, and resolve many arising issues as expected in a large conference like IEEE VR.
Come join us in Daegu for an exciting and unforgettable IEEE VR conference. You will learn, appreciate, experience and get the first glimpse of the latest XR world that is becoming not just more real, immersive and usable, but also self-evolving with intelligence. See you all in Daegu!
