Magnetron adalah sebuah tabung vakum berkekuatan tinggi yang menggenerasikan gelombang mikro menggunakan interaksi aliran elektron dengan bidang magnetik saat memindahkan serangkaian rongga metal terbuka (resonator).
Bentuk awal dari tabung magnetron ditemukan oleh Albert Hull pada 1920, tetapi tidak memiliki kapabilitas berfrekuensi tinggi dan sangat sedikit digunakan. Perangkat yang sama dibuat oleh beberapa tim sepanjang 1920an dan 1930an. Pada 27 November 1935, Hans Erich Hollmann mengajukan paten terhadap magnetron berongga ganda pertama, yang ia raih pada 12 Juli, 1938,[1] namun klystron yang lebih stabil lebih banyak digunakan pada radar Jerman pada Perang Dunia II.
