After coursing through the cavernous sinus, the ICA pierces through the dural wall of the sinus to enter the subarachnoid space. It then gives off its first branch - the ophthalmic artery, which runs with the optic nerve and ophthalmic vein into the orbit. A large cup-to-disc ratio

The normal cup-to-disc ratio is less than 0.5. A large cup-to-disc ratio may imply glaucoma or other pathology. However, cupping by itself is not indicative of glaucoma. Rather, it is an increase in cupping as the patient ages that is an indicator for glaucoma. Glaucoma is the disease of the Optic nerve. Glaucoma damages your optic nerve causing blindness.
