hlThe Elections Committee has been directed by the OTW's Board of Directors to post the following text:
"A message from the Board, to avoid any possible confusion regarding the composition of the ballot for the upcoming election: Nikisha Sanders is no longer running for a seat on the Board, because she is not eligible to run under the OTW's Elections Eligibility Requirements. These Requirements, which were adopted by the Board in August, 2014, specify that in order to be eligible to run for a seat on the Board, a candidate must be a current staffer on a standing committee of the OTW. Sanders' staff role on the Development and Membership committee was "ex officio," that is, she held that position by virtue of her position as Treasurer. Sanders' September 11, 2015 resignation from the office of Treasurer required her automatic removal from any positions that she held solely by virtue of being Treasurer, including her role on the Development and Membership Committee. As a result of her resignation, therefore, Sanders is no longer a staffer on a standing committee of the OTW, and is not eligible to continue to run for a Board seat in the present election. As we said when she resigned earlier this month, we are immensely grateful for the dedication Sanders brought to her years of work for the OTW as Treasurer and as a member of the Board of Directors from 2011-14, and we wish her all the best in her future endeavors."
Any comments will be submitted to the Board for response, as the Elections Commitee is not allowed to discuss the topic on this site without the approval of the Board and the Legal Committee.

We just need to get through all this fuckery. We will survive it and come out working out the other end, the same way we went in.

...which i guess just says this drama is worth slightly less than the price of a movie ticket.

Date: 2015-09-27 07:22 pm (UTC)1. I am in fact in the process of donating right now to vote. I never said I wasn't going to.
2. I resigned from staff at the end of last year and was on hiatus due to giving birth for the first half of this year. When I came back to doing translation work as a volunteer (i.e. non-staff) translator, I consciously made the choice to not go to Board open sessions or read any parts of the internal wiki outside the Translation section or keep up with what other committees were doing because I was burned out on trying to follow OTW internal politics and issues. That is the decision that I thought was a good one.

I, for one, am very glad you're still volunteering. They need you. :)

Date: 2015-09-27 08:02 pm (UTC)Honestly the levels of stress in my life decreased so exponentially after I left staff, and I was so genuinely relieved not to have to think about OTW stuff at all, that it's been a surreal experience to realize how invested I feel in the org even after a year. I'm obviously not still on DevMem but I still feel invested in DevMem and I was really shocked that all this concerned my former committee so directly. I know how demoralized I was when I left. I'm just glad I don't have to go through that again. :/
