Victorian house fence

Unless it's a beauty like this one! After yesterdays post, celebrated blog commenter Toby Worthington contacted me with this fence he designed for his own house. Toby based the design on a fence in upstate New York found in a book by a local architect. The design complements his 1860s Gothic painted brick house; Now THATS something I'd want to see, how about you? Thanks for sharing, Toby!!

Standing proudly behind its picket fence with capped newel posts, this large Victorian villa constructed in the 1890s is situated in the inner northern Melbourne suburb of Moonee Ponds. This single storey sprawling villa has a splendid front verandah with elegant cast iron lacework. The roof is made of slate tiles with a geometric pattern laid out as part of the design, whilst the verandah is of corrugated iron. This blog describes the sequence of events for the building of our new home in Melbourne, Australia. We haven't engaged a builder, but are taking on the role of "owner-builder" ourselves, which means that we are project managers and we engage sub-contractors for the parts of the project. NOTE: To be an owner-builder, a Building-Technology course at a TAFE is recommended (Tertiary Education Institute).

Fence Gallery - Colonial / Early Victorian 1860 - 1900

This wonderful Victorian cast iron fence and gate with ornate newel posts may be found in the provincial Victorian city of Ballarat. With the roots of the large tree behind the fence disturbing the ground beneath, the fence has a wonderful dilapidated look about it. The look of picturesque neglect is enhanced by the ivy that grows up between the palings.
