office365 web apps take odd keyboard input if using Firedragon

A bit hard to describe but for a while now (at least 4 months), I noticed that whenever I am working on any Office365 app (works forces MS on me), the keyboard input is a disaster.

When typing in Word or OneNote, for example, I would get 2 spaces instead of 1 every time I press on the space bar.
Some sentences would completely revert back as shown in this video (however, it happens to me randomly, not just when using accents):

When using Excel, the first character typed does not register, so if I type the number one hundred and ten (110) into a cell, I would get just ten (10)
Also in excel, if I typed the equal sign to start a formula, the cursor would jump back to the first character so if I type =A20 I get A20=

I hate MS products but the work forces them on me. This has become an unsustainable situation that may force me to ditch Firedragon altogether in favour of Chromium which does not show these problems

• Do you have anything showing in the console at the moment the text is discarded?
• Does this occur when using a new profile?
• Have you overridden any defaults in about:config?
• Does this occur with no extensions, or after disabling Enhanced Tracking Protection?

First thing would be to try it with FLOORP Browser, which Firedragon is heavily based on.
I do not have access to Office365 with Firedragon so I cannot test.

Second thing would be to try it with Firefox.
I do not have access to Office365 with Firefox so I cannot test.

Third thing would be to try with Google apps, like Docs and Sheets.
That I can test, I use it every day for years and never had a problem.

I just ran a test, saw the double spaces and this was populated in the console

general.useragent.override set to Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:130.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/131.0
I did this because I kept getting weird errors and warnings about the browser identity, I reverted back to default, restarted the browser and tested again, same issue

Does this occur with no extensions, or after disabling Enhanced Tracking Protection?
just did, same problem. I also added an exception for enhanced tracking protection as I saw no way to disable it entirely

I'll install FLOORP and give it a try but it does happen with Firefox

I tried google docs and sheets seem to work OK but I just attempted to write an actual doc (as in word clone) and I cannot get ANY keyboard input in it. It basically seems to ignore or discard 99% of anything I type. I can get enter and navigation keys but actual letters and numbers it may actually show on screen 1 out 10 typed

One more thing of note... the very first issue I noticed was adding a numeric lock to ProtonPass (it's a password manager you can lock with a 6 digit numeric pin)

At first it was perfect but soon after (I am assuming an update to GarudaLinux or some change I am trying to pinpoint) the pin became an issue as the cursor would not progress as I type forcing me to click on each cell to ensure the proper number landed on the write place.

I now think this is the same issue I am seeing with MS products. This problem does not take place in Chromium

The good news is that I can provide a better timeline here:

• A pin lock on proton pass was made available end of year 2023, I probably started using it in September 2024
• I opened a bug report with them on Nov 15th 2024 (tried many things with them but never resolved it, report is still open)

I upgrade my GarudaLinux workstation every Friday and I would have noticed this pin issue very quickly as I use it multiple times per day. Since Nov 15th is a Friday and I opened the ticket in the afternoon, I am guessing if the upgrade is at fault, it would have been on that very day

I can reproduce the following issue in firefox and firedrageon:
If I write a letter with an accent, like é, add more characters after this and press enter, everything between the letter with accent and the newline will be removed. This happpens in word in Firefox and FireDragon alike. If I add multiple letters with accent in one line, it behaves more erratic, but similar (sometimes a few letters after the last one with accent will stay).

I can not reproduce the issue with space, neither in Firefox nor FireDragon, neither in Word nor in OneNote.

I can not reproduce the issue with Numbers missing in Excel, neither in Firefox nor in Firedragon (even not after entering accents)

There are people online mentioning problems with word 365 and accents using Wayland (and chrome):

AFAIK my Firefox indeed uses Wayland instead of XWayland. So maybe that is one way to further investigate the accent issue? And maybe it just is an Microsoft Bug? But maybe using XWayland is a workaround for the OP for the time being?

Thanks for your insight. I switched back to regular X11 and noticed the following wild behaviour:

The problem with the double spaces is technically gone but, it is not that it behaves normally by adding 1 space per press of the space bar. As I type, I can see it inserting double spaces but immediately backing the cursor back 1 space. This means that I can type normally and the resulting paragraph looks fine but I wind up with a trail of extra spaces at the end.

IMO this absolutely looks like a Microsoft bug.

@Technetium1 I have been unable to test on Floorp as I cannot installing at the moment. I keep getting dependency problems from both the Pacman packages and the AUR. Working to resolve those.

In the meantime, I remembered all I disliked about Chrome (which I am forced to use in the office workstations anyway) so I resolved to coming back to FireDragon. For small office work I will just put up with the issues for now, for extensive work I will temporarily open those in a Chrome window or use Libre office and then import
