IDEA ACADEMY FOR FREMANTLE PIAZZA

The IDEA Academy will move into The Piazza, on the corner of Paddy Troy Lane. Work has started to transform the former hospitality space into an educational one.
The IDEA Academy states on their web page that it is:
“IDEA offers a proven and innovative education option for young Australians aged 15 – 18 years. We provide a personalised learning environment and co-designed vocational pathways, supporting learners to thrive based on their unique strengths, interests, and aspirations.“
It is my understanding that the number of students is pretty low, just a couple of dozen, so not sure what that will do to activate the dormant hub, that is just off the popular Fremantle Cappuccino Strip.

OPEN DAY AT NOTRE DAME UNI

Fremantle’s Notre Dame University held it’s Open Day today. The day was not as glamorous and full of energy as it used to be, as NDA has toned it down considerably, so it was relatively quiet compared to previous years, hence only a few photos.

NOTRE DAME UNI STUDENTS OUTRAGE

Students at Fremantle’s Notre Dame University are fed up that the IT outage at the uni is still affecting them. They started a Demand NDU Waive SSAF Fees Due To IT Outage petition at Change.org. SSAF stands for Students Services Amenities Fees.
Social media is full of complaints from students, as some have been unable to get into the NDA’s blackboard for twelve weeks. Others are unable to sort placements, or can’t get transcripts to apply or enroll in other units.
Students are extremely frustrated about the lack of transparency and very poor communication by NDA, so it’s urgent time for Freo’s uni to lift their game!

WE HAVE SHORT MEMORIES IN FREMANTLE

There are a lot of people in Fremantle, who have a very short memory, it appears. Many express on social media that the new Woolstores, on the corner of Queen and Cantonment streets, is a duplication of the one that was demolished, but as the photos above show, it is not.
The new building has three storeys, while the old one was just single street level. If it is good or bland architecture is up to individual tastes. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as we all know. It would have been cheaper for Silverleaf Investments to build a concrete box, as the cost of bricks has gone through the roof. And for the record. I like the classic style of this building.
The Akidamy early learning school is already open on the top level, and most of the office spaces have been leased. Must be great to have an office with onsite parking.
The Coles supermarket, Liquorland and Sushi Hiru will all open at the end of April.

NOTRE DAME STUDENTS BACK IN FREO
Good news for Freo traders, especially West End cafes, that on campus lectures re-started today at Notre Dame University. It will be nice to see thousands of young people roaming the streets of our city again and frequenting cafes.
On-line lectures remain an option for students who prefer not to come back to campus yet.
NDA stopped campus lectures because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Welcome back students and staff. We love having you in Freo!
