EASIER THAN STAINING: Stain penetrates the wood and once it is applied, it is extremely hard to remove. Stain can also be temperamental and leave uneven lines/blotches. Paint washing is very forgiving, easy to sand off if you make a mistake and you still get to see that beautiful grain.

NO SURPRISES: Often when I use stains, I am left feeling disappointed that the color was not what I was going for. Stain penetrates the wood, which means it will change color depending on what type of wood you are working with. When paint washing you can choose any color you want. Grey wash, tan wash, white wash, whatever look you are going for.
