What's in the Name

My work is inspired by my own personal growth and the realization that the only limits I face are self-imposed. Art allows me to let go of control and surrender to the painting in front of me. Each piece expresses a feeling I am experiencing, an aspect of growth I am facing, or a question I am contemplating as I create it. This board takes you across this journey.

What's In a Name? "Cucine" By Bibby Gignilliat
"Cucine" is an acrylic and oil painting on canvas made during an art residency in Lecce, Italy. The name "Cucine" means kitchen and aptly names this piece as I threw in everything but the sink! This mixed media collage combines graphite, oil stick, tissue, spray paint, found Roman scraps, and glue as a fixative. An energetic statement piece and contemporary wall art to style your home or office. View more works on canvas and find fun in her artwork names at BibbyArt.com.
"Topography of Change" Acrylic Painting on Canvas
Original acrylic paintings on canvas were created during a residency in Italy. This painting started off as an abundance prayer in graphite then Bibby wrote over it in asemic writing using an oil stick, ten created the design using spray paint and acrylic paint, finished with scraps found in Rome. The name was inspired by the change in topography from my studio in California. Several works were created during residency, see all the original acrylic paintings at BibbyArt.com
"And the Band Played On", Ready to Hang

It is part of a series of other works inspired by the joy that music brings to me while I paint. Visit me online to see the other paintings from this series: www.BibbyArt.com
"Fish Market" Acrylic Mixed Media by San Francisco Bay Area Artist Bibby Gignilliat
I arrived at this painting's name, "Fish Market" because it includes a story I wrote when I was seven years old. It's about fishing with my dad. I took brown paper grocery bags, painted them with acrylic paint, then put them together in a collage. "Fish Market" is part of an ICB group show at the Bay Model in Sausalito, CA. If you are looking for works of art for your home or office, we also have regular open studio events. Check the schedule and come on by! Bibby
The Meaning Behind This Piece Called Offering
Some of you may know that I have a big spiritual side. One of the things I am learning through one of my teachers is how to offer to the powers that be. If something is meant to be, it will be. It is easier said than done to surrender and get out of the way. Little by little it is getting easier. Resistance is such a waste of energy! I tell my students that attachment is a form of resistance. Bibby

Courage Kindled 24" x 24"
This piece includes a scrap from a billboard that I found 5 years ago in the Dogpatch in San Francisco. I was running my cooking company then and I hauled the whole giant, crumpled billboard into the office one day. It had fallen off the billboard and onto the street during a rain storm. This is a treasure to an artist! My team thought I was crazy but i’ve been called crazy many times and now here it is making a cameo. The black scrap is a paper bag that I found on the street.
