Figuring out the best layout and furniture placement in the long, narrow parlor of a traditional brownstone or townhouse can be perplexing, even for the most design-savvy homeowner.

This brownstone, the neighbor and twin sister of Putnam Townhouse, was a comprehensive gut renovation that involved recreating a large amount of period detail in a way that felt original to the house. The project included moving the kitchen to the rear of the parlor floor, two new bathrooms on the top floor, a new powder room on the parlor floor, and a full bathroom on the ground floor. A glass accordion door was added to the rear of the garden level, to connect with the garden.

Squeezing a powder room into the parlor level of a brownstone or townhouse can be one of the trickiest parts of a renovation, especially if you are trying to preserve original details like crown molding and woodwork.

Thanks for all of the love on my before and after!
