Where to start with your first book cover design?

Here`s my first portfolio book from my selected work as a graphic design student. I made this portfolio to complete the internship program needs. This book contains three parts of the project, first is college work, client work, and personal or initiative project. Thank you and enjoy the gaze!

This book cover shows excellent figure ground/negative space. The contours formed by the position of the fox serve as the shape of a boy, I'm assuming "Peter." This empty space also creates a wonderful focal point for the book title to nestle into.
