This period fashion piece was introduced to India during the Mughal period in the 16th century and possibly has its design roots from Persia. Called Juttis or Mojaris, these light, flirty shoes are made from vegetable tanned leather and get their fashionable twists and splashes of color from a variety of stitching with gold, silver and colored threads and embroidery done by women. Embellished with beads, mirror-work, colorful motifs and designs, these are a fashion statement in today’s urban streets.
