Magnificent Gold Lion Ring by Baumstein Feder with Diamonds, Circa 1950's

I'm delighted to offer one of Baumstein Feder's original gold Lion rings from the 1950's. Many manufacturers made inferior copies of this magnificent lion over the years, and when you see the wonderful details and impressive presence of this ring it's easy to see why. (Baumstein Feder was located in NY and known for their high quality pieces and gems. In the 50's they commissioned an artist in Italy to sculpt the design for this lion - they also made a snake and bear - that was then cast and made in NYC.) Weighing 15.85 grams on my scale, this is a heavy and beautifully crafted piece. The Lion is well modeled from every angle and is set with two sparkly single cut diamonds for his eyes, while a larger round brilliant cut diamond is held between his teeth. (total estimated carat weight is .07 carats, with G-H color and VS clarity) Measuring from the top of his head to his chin, and from where his mane flows into the polished gold band, the face of the ring is approximately 7/8 x 15/16 of an inch. (22.8 x 24 mm) The shoulders taper from approximately 13 mm to 5.5 mm at the very back of the ring. Inside, the ring retains its original hallmarks, including a mark of "14K" as well as "BaumF" which is the maker's mark. There are slight signs of the ring having been sized up at one point and done rather well. Currently a size 12 on my mandrel, he might fit a little more snugly due to the substantial design of the ring. He could be sized up or down within reason by a good jeweler. A very striking and marvelous vintage ring.
