I started looking at the Billy bookcase from IKEA with glass doors weeks ago… But was nervous about the 11 in depth and losing some additional space. I took a few of my storage containers into IKEA and realized it would actually be the perfect size, so I purchased two on the spot! After building those I quickly realized I wanted to add a third bookcase to maximize the storage on the side of the room.

It looked amazing with three stacked next to each other, but we wanted this to be a full built-in unit so we knew we had to build a base unit that will either be drawers or doors.

Because of the progress we have made with moving walls on this first floor, we are very close to being able to replace our floor Ikea Billy Mudroom Hack, Ikea Cabinets Built In Hack, Pantry With Stand Up Freezer, Ikea Hack Kitchen Pantry, Ikea Wall Pantry, Ikea Corner Pantry Hack, Ikea Kitchen Pantry Hack, Ikea Pantry Billy, Ikea Built In Kitchen

They’re great where you don’t want doors swinging into rooms or small spaces and getting in the way. The other way to hide an open door away is to create a recess (the thickness of the door) behind the door so it sits into the wall when open. I call this the ‘disappearing door’. You can’t have a handle on the door here, so use a roller or magnetic catch instead to keep the door shut. One thing we have discovered though is, particularly with over-sized pocket doors like ours, make sure to leave enough of a gap between the door and the walls either side. THE DESIGNORY - Your Home Design Hub on Instagram: "Clean design that elevates a space may seem simple but the devil is in the detail!

Check out this satisfying disappearing door design.

Homeowners achieved this sleek design by building the wall a little thicker to create space for the door shape recess. They also selected an over-sized door to maximise it's impact and make the space feel larger.

We are so impressed with the final result and we are sure you will be inspired too!
