I sometimes use a rounded tool to press my carving from the back to make it rise up above the surface of the leather. Here I’m using the ball on the back of my modeling tool to lift the petals of this flower just a little bit. You can use any rounded tool to push from the back. The leather has to be damp and I use my fingers to support the leather on either side of where I’m pushing. I’m not looking for much lift when I emboss the leather like this. I’m just adding a little lift to the petals so they stand up above the rest of the carving. This is a fairly thick piece of leather so it won’t give much without a lot of work but thinner leather and leather that is wetter will give and stretch more. Manually carved and debossed with stamping tools, each piece is takes quite awhile to carve before being made into anything. I named this "Equinox" because of discourse between modern minimalist design and function with traditional maximalist motifs and process. Fun fact: Oil magnates and gold mine owners in early the 1900's would commissions saddle...
