Going to Otakuthon was quite an experience! My first international and technically also east-coast con! I’ve been delaying this report due to minor jet lag, usually I have more energy to write a lengthy con report a few days after but it’s been two weeks since the convention now.

Though even as two weeks has gone by, I’m still reeling with emotion.

{Day 0}

After a five hour flight I landed at the airport in the early morning, it was my first time really taking a night flight for a con, but considering the time difference I thought it was worth it. After getting through customs, I asked the staff where the uber dropoff was. One of them didn’t want to talk to me as they slowly inched away… probably since I spoke English okay rip. At least it didn’t take long until I had cafe staff tell me the address was correct.

Once I got to the hotel, I was greeted by a fish pond and I was floored right there. Met up with the lovely

[twitter.com profile] cynccino

At some point we decided to figure out where the convention was and good gosh it was right in front of our hotel. I’ve never been in such close proximity to a convention center before it was amazing! The inside itself was pretty nice as well with pianos, ping pong tables, and fancy chairs to sit in.

Though as with all cons, there was line con. Apparently it was either for at-con registration or badge mailing complications/will call. Ended up just getting our swag bag which unfortunately I couldn’t take the actual bag home with me since I was afraid of customs checking it oops.

We went back to our hotel and waited for [twitter.com profile] Kurisumasu_Tapi  (Amai) to arrive so we can official check in to our hotel. It was a nice room, love soft pillows so much! Took a short nap before we all decided to La Banquista for another round of Poutine! Now that was amazing! I’m glad I managed to check this place out!

After that we just settled into our hotel room and prepped for the first day of con!

{DAY 1}

Woke up around 7 and got my Eugeo cosplay ready, didn’t leave until 8, the line wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. Though Amai reminded me once again that Otakuthon was a smaller con and not like crazy Anime Expo. So we wait in line until 11 when the con officially opens. I doodled once again to pass the time. Once we were officially in line to get into the exhibit hall, it was only a matter of time before we could get in. Though still a few people cut the lines so I was worried the exhibit hall would be crowded.

Once we got in, well dang. It wasn’t crowded at all? Cynpai and I managed to find the Jrock booth easily and sadly they had no Rica merch yet since she was still on her flight to Canada. I ended up buying a TM Revolution CD just in case I had the chance to get an autograph.

We just explored the artist alley after that. I commissioned this Keiichi&Rika button and bought a Pikachu onigiri as well as some yujikiri goods from an artist I saw at AX. I split up with Cynpai and decided to line up to Marina Inoue’s line. Once again I thought I was  going to be in a pickle, but hey I managed to get an autograph on my Umineko drama CD after all and gave her a Jessica keychain as a gift. She told me that Umineko was very nostalgic for her.

I wandered back to Amai’s table and we basically had some Sushi Chef. I got the Sushirito. I went back with Cynpai to the hotel and changed out of my cosplay since it was getting super hot. We walked to Tim Hortons and I tried the ice cappuccino that amai recommended and man I could feel the caffeine rushing through me.

We walked back to con and I decided to get one last autograph before lining up for the TM Revolution concert - Hisashi Kagawa. Once I showed him the Movie 3 postcard, he kept saying how nostalgic for him it was. He signed a Sailor Moon poster and my postcard whilst also drawing a tiny Pikachu

Went in line around 6ish and just talked about random stuff like Pokemon Centers in Japan until it was time to go in. Amai, Cynpai, and I managed to get seats at the second row so we were lucky. Though by the start of the concert, people were piled up at the pit area. I remember Itou Kanako’s concert at AX which was a smaller venue and figured yeah the best place was sitting in the seats where it wasn’t cramped.

The concert was lit! Loved that TMR decided to start with Heart of Sword! It’s such an iconic song, and man Kenshin days on Toonami were great! Also loved that he sung Resonance and Invoke from Soul Eater and Gundam Seed. It got pretty hyped and he had so much energy! Wasn’t expecting him at one point to just throw his jacket off like WhoA WHoA there! My feet hurt so much from jumping and swinging my penlight around.

Once the concert ended lined up for merchandise line, which we were promised free goods, but ultimately it was futile. We ended up ditching the line for some dinner! Had some mackerel, ramen, and tiramisu

After that we went back to the hotel and chilled. At some point Rica tweeted that she arrived in Canada and I tweeted her that I couldn’t wait to see her! She surprised me once again by tweeting me back “me too”. It made me too excited to sleep right away, but also that thunder and lightning. I was shook in bed wondering what was going on, but everything seemed okay. I fell asleep thinking about getting to meet Rica again tomorrow.

{DAY 2}

Decided to go as my real self today since I had a Rica shirt and wanted to see her reaction to me wearing it. Lined up around the same time as the day before and was surprised to get around the same spot. It really surprised me once again since it was Saturday and usually Saturdays for cons are the busiest.

Once 10 rolled around, Cynpai and I went straight to the Jnorth booth and was surprised to see how little the Rica merch was. Though since Rica and her manager were asleep because they got in at 1am, they didn’t know the prices yet. They decided to take the merch and have it sold after the Q&A panel.

Cynpai and I decided to start the line for the panel right after that because why not. It was great meeting people like [twitter.com profile] GSotoVasquez in line and talking about our love for Rica. We also talked about Japan trips! Aaaaah I wanna go to a Pokemon Cafeee!

The panel was delayed till like 12:45/50ish, but it was alright. All I had was Rica today. This article pretty much sums up her panel! Though parts I liked was how people told her to eat Poutine in Montreal, and how people talked about her first leading role as Jin Hyuga from Raijin Oh which I still need to finish! I died once she screamed out one of Jin’s lines, like aaaah, gosh it made my motivation to continue spike up.

There was also a part where Rica said she’d be interested in collaborating with Jam Project again since it’s the 20th Anniversary next year. So you hear that Jam Project, hit her up~~ She wants to sing Soul Taker again! I reeled back from my chair from being so emotional once she started singing the first line and I tried singing back to her but I think my voice was too quiet.

I knew some of her backstory beforehand, but man hearing it directly from her mouth was just oof. I know some of the songs she wrote were talking about her family.

I asked her what are other roles in anime that she loved voicing and first of all she was happy to see me wearing Satoshi’s Kalos hat and then noticed my Rica shirt. She was so surprised and said: Thank you for wearing one of the clothes I helped design from my fanclub “Jolly Dog”!  She told me she loved all the characters she voiced and talked about this Japanese story about sea turtles coming out of eggs and crying out their way to be born in the world which is how she looks into every character she voices. That’s how she comes to love every one of the characters she voices. I was shaking so much after that since I was so happy to actually ask her something even if she told me a roundabout answer, but I guess she voiced a lot of characters that she can’t recall specifics.

Once the panel ended, quite a number of us lined up for the merch. We were stationed at the front, but then they told us to line up at the back because of the next panel, but then once again they realize hey the next panel is another one of their guests - Marina Inoue oops! So they had to line us back at the front. Luckily I managed to get the merch I wanted. I was so happy to get more Rica merch that I didn’t have!

I walked out of the room and went into the autograph room with Amai and Cynpai and good gosh. There were two separate lines - one for priority and one for raffle. Once we came in from the panel, I overheard this guy yelling at staff about us coming in and lining up and that ‘they lied to them’. There was so many people! Though, hey it clearly stated in the autograph policies that Rica line prioritized those with Rica merch from the booth or in our case the Q&A. I guess people didn’t read.

Once it got to my turn, they announced that autographs would be finished in 5 minutes. When I went up to her, her eyes lit up so much and thanked me again for wearing the shirt but then I pointed to the Pikachu rosette and the two bags I had - the Satoshi itabag and one of the Jolly Dog bags and she kept saying SUGOI SUGOI SUGOI! She immediately wanted a picture of me and my merch! I wish I could have asked for a picture, but staff told us no pictures ourselves so rip. I handed her my RICA the Best CD and once again I hear how nostalgic it was for her to see it. I told her that I saw her at Anime Expo and she thanked me for coming to see her there. She handed it back to me and I give her my gift. Rica looks at it and then asks how old I was in English and I told her I was 28. She points at my drawing and asks if I drew it at my age and I was so embarrassed at her asking that but I nodded and said thank you before leaving for the TMR autograph line!

Thankfully I managed to get an autograph from TMR! Staff kept running through all rows asking for people had bought specific things to line up as priority. This time they were only having TMR sign merch that we bought at the booth. First in priority was people that had t-shirts for him to sign. I almost got a t-shirt the day before but decided that having a CD was much better for me to have signed. Man once it got to my turn I told him that I really enjoyed the concert and he thanked me and shook my hand. I’ll never forget how warm his hand felt. Like WHOA those hands were holy???

After getting more autographs from Irie Yasuhiro, Shigefumi Shingaki, and Tomoyuki Shitaya, I met back up with Amai and Cynpai for dinner! We had noodles and those yakult drinks. Though after that we had Juliette & Chocolat for dessert. SO WORTH IT! It was so good~  We went back to our hotel after that and slept the rest of the night away. Another Rica day tomorrow~

{DAY 3}

Decided to go as Serena for the last day, the same cosplay I used to meet Rica at Anime Expo. This time I went alone since Amai and Cynpai wanted to sleep more. I just wanted to check to make sure where we were supposed to line up for the Rica showcase. The line was considerably shorter by the time I got there around the same time as the other days. I met up with one of the Rica fans I talked to yesterday and we just talked the time away before we went up at 10. There was a huge line for the exhibit hall so we just opted out and lined up for the autograph room for Junichi Hayama. We heard interesting stories from the staff about previous guests coming and how people tried to bribe young volunteers to hook them up with meeting those guests. Pretty scary.

After we got our autograph we decided to check the exhibit hall and check the animator booth. I went to get some breakfast from Amai at her booth. We decided to go back to the autograph line after looking at the rest of the booth and getting confirmation where the line would start for the Rica showcase. Though before that we had time to kill so we were the first to line up for Irie Yasuhiro. While we were waiting in line, [twitter.com profile] kiwiipandan (Kris) came by to talk with us while we waited for him to arrive. It was great seeing her again

We both got Irie to draw Domon from G Gundam and he asked me how old I was when I watched G Gundam. I told him about middle school. I wasn’t sure since it was sooo long ago on Toonami. I rewatched it a few years ago during college and it was still as great as I remembered it. My favorite Gundam.

Once we finished, we decided to start the showcase line at 12:30 and I messaged Amai and Cynpai to line up when they can since it started. Though what we didn’t know was it would turn into an eternal close to 4 hour wait. By the time the showcase was about to start, there was a line out the door and four lines inside the autograph room were filled. Though people left as time past by. Staff came by and told us there were sound issues and that Rica wanted to be at her best, but also that we wouldn’t all fit in the room, except that wasn’t true. People were leaving their place in line and going back just to shout and complain to the staff, Amai went up to them at one point and they flinched thinking she was going to shout at them, but were grateful that she asked calmly about the situation. Amazing that people here would yell at staff as if that would help. At some point we got people confronting us on being the front of the line asking how and why. Amai and Cynpai just pointed at me saying that I was basically in the autograph room from the room opening.

The autograph line started while we were in line for the showcase. One of the guys just scoffed at us gloating that they were starting the line. That they weren’t going to be easy on us once we get out of the showcase. Like bro, chill we didn’t need your hostility.

Once 4PM rolled by we were allowed to go in, but there was almost a stampede since people didn’t want to go in line by line. I went straight to the front row in the middle. Almost had staff tell me to move since they wanted an organized room with no spaces, but Amai, Cynpai, and I just sat there not moving just giving them the vibe of “nope we’re staying” so the staff gave up and moved to other people.

Now I brought two penlights out ready to jam out to Rica and show my support! Hell yeah I wasn’t going to let anyone ruin this experience for me even though I didn’t know what I was doing with my sticks! Oops! At the very least this time I was at the very front so I couldn’t see people staring at me like with Anime Expo. Now that I still remember vividly.

Rica sang Alive a Life, Ikite Koso, and Mezase Pokemon Master

All three performances were so exciting~ I screamed so much and probably hurt the ears of people next to and that were behind me. Though with Ikite Koso, I felt so emotional while she was singing it and cried. Having to do the Ikite Koso moves myself and hearing other people besides myself singing “IKITE KOSO, IKITE KOSSOO” was just perfect. She was crying as well too! A person yelled out “NAKANAIDE!” after the song finished and now I can’t really listen to the original song the same way again. Listening to it live and having sung with other people, just the best.

Things were iffy with Mezase though, the sound crew derped so hard, I wouldn’t be surprised if Rica was upset by the end of this, but managed to keep on going for her fans. Once they actually got Mezase to play, everyone was singing and dancing. It felt more lively than the Mezase performance at Anime Expo. Other people besides me used penlights as well so it really was like a real concert! Yay!

Once the concert ended, Cynpai and I rushed out to the autograph line immediately. Amai went back to her artist alley table. Luckily we made it in line before staff cut it. They also weeded out people asking about the merch at the table, but in the end they ended up selling the free postcards that were given out when buying merch. There was also this most absurd thing. I guess people complained so much about the day before that they had to add a new category besides the priority and raffle line. This category was called “picture people” - that being that if you were in a certain picture taken the day before you got priority. Man I’d love to see those people handle autographs at Anime Expo or any of the other big conventions.

Jokes on that person from before the showcase started, I managed to get my shikishi signed by Rica. Though before I went up to her, people in line signed/drew a shikishi to give to Rica as a gift. I could have given it to her, but I was already afraid I would make a small blunder like yesterday. It was really nice getting to talk to other Rica fans. I cried a little bit in line while remembering how emotional it was getting to see Rica sing in person.

When it got to my turn, I heard staff rushing me in like whoa, they really wanted me in and out. Although I couldn’t really blame them since the delay of the showcase really hindered the autograph session. So I go up to them and decide to try and talk Japanese to Rica. I gave her the shikishi and said “Hello!” She looked up at me and smiled before going back and signing her name. I took this time to tell her that I really enjoyed her live and that I cried a lot - in which she replied that she too cried herself. I told her that I was very happy and that Ikite Koso was such a great song. She thanked me once more and drew a Pikachu for me as per my request which was so great. I almost forgot to ask to ask her. Once she handed the shikishi back to me, she extended her hand for a handshake.

In that moment, I knew that if I stayed any longer I would just start ugly sobbing in front of her. I didn’t really see her shaking people’s hands so, to her to extend her hand to me, I just felt so happy and shocked. I could already feel the tears threatening to gush out as I shook her hand thanking her for everything. When I turned my back to her tears started flowing out immediately, I overheard people saying “omg she’s crying” as I left. I waited for Cynpai to get her autograph and we both left for the closing ceremonies with other Rica fans in line with us where we saw Rica talk about how happy she was that she was here and delivered her iconic line. “Otakuthon Getto Daze!”

We went back to our hotel and had our last dinner at a Shabu Shabu place with boba afterwards! Spent most of the night packing and just being happy that I got the chance to see Rica once more this year.

{DAY 4 - Going home}

Woke up and went to a bakery. Bought some durian sweets because hello I want more durian foods. Still craving for more Durian Gelato, but eventually I’ll return and have it. Went back and checked out our hotel, but we had the staff hold our bags so we could eat and hang out before we had to leave our respective ways.

We had this delicious noodle soup. Just gosh it was amazing. The mild spice level was just right for me and the tea egg to add was great! Glad I added it on~ We walked around and lingered around the Notre Dame area and then Cynpai and I parted ways with Amai after we got back our bags.

We walked to the bus station in which I bought myself a Canada dry for laughs. Still nice after a good walk though.

After relaxing a bit, I ubered back to the airport, bought souvenirs for people, and just sat in a chair relaxing and dozing off from time to time. There was a line for when we actually were about to go in the plane which just reminded me that linecon is forever~

I couldn’t sleep on the plane so I just watched three movies - The Kid Who Would Be King, How to Train Your Dragon 2, and Fantastic Beasts 2. It would have been better if there was complimentary food, but alas that was not the case.

We stalled at the gate for a while, I got lost trying to find the baggage area, but eventually I found it and left for home around midnight. Family decided to get some INO since it was the only thing really open.

{Final Thoughts}

Well going to Canada was worth the trip.

I really got to meet with Rica Matsumoto this time. I managed to convey more of my feelings to her than at Anime Expo. I still got embarrassed with her asking about my age and my drawings. I was ready for her to say more things.

Despite the mishaps during the con, it was pretty great! Autographs were super easy to get compared to other cons I’ve been too as I’ve said before. I wished I got photos with Rica though... Will she ever post photos they took of me I wonder.

Getting to hear her live once more was amazing! Even better with more songs! Her Ikite Koso performance blew me away that I can listen to the original the same way. Ooops~

Otakuthon was a pretty chill con. I would love to return sometime, depending on the guests. It was a nice experience! Being my first international con! Maybe I’ll go for Comiket someday… Who knows~

 What can I say about Anime Expo?

Like Sakuracon, I felt really accomplished this year! I’m still in the midst of post-con depression so trying to put all my thoughts is derp. I miss everyone already. Packing up and heading to the airport just felt so melancholy to me. This week was just amazing and as always I look forward to AX so much.

This AX was especially a special one.

June 10, 2019 - Friends kept pinging me in the morning and once I saw the words “RICA MATSUMOTO” as a special guest I screamed from my bed.

I’ve been asking AX for years to have her as a special guest and lo and behold they finally answered my prayers! I’ve been wanting to see her since 2005 when I started watching Pokemon in Japanese from the latter half of Advanced Generation.

Though before that I learned that Rica would be attending Otakuthon in August, so I booked that before AX announced Rica as a guest! I screamed and threw my phone when I learned that as well. Also when I left Sakuracon, I mentioned that all I had to do was meet Rica Matsumoto this year -- and you all know the con gods heard me!

This year is hella lit.

Alrighty alrighty, what can I say about Anime Expo 2016? I'm once again in post-con depression just derping. I still can't believe it's over, the week of fun already came and went like a flash. I already miss seeing everyone and talking to fellow fans in lines. I just can't. I wish it were longer ugh.

Like last year I met several people that I've known for years and we happened to be at AX at the same time which was awesome. There were a lot more people though so there were lots of lines welp.Read more... )

Ah yes, Anime Expo 2015, what can I say about it - I'm in post con blues right now so writing this will help me rewind.

It was a first for most things for me - I bought my own plane ticket, flew on a plane by myself, and stayed in a hotel with friends and these friends are friends that I've known since my High School years at Serebii forums so it was really special as AX was a way for us to meet in our many years of knowing each other.

Read more... ) (Cyn) and treated her to her first in-n-out burger and man did I miss having animal fries even though it was kinda rushed. We were talking about the presentation of our products in the last work meeting too oops.

We met up with[livejournal.com profile] elysianangel8 (Anthony) and[livejournal.com profile] orion_hasta (Orion) after getting picked up by Uber driver and I gave everyone their gifts. The hotel was really fancy yep. After we got our room we settled a bit before going to the convention and surprisingly it only took like a few minutes to get our badges like we sat there and was amazed by how short it was. There barely a line like we had to ask if this was the badge line.

After that we went to Little Tokyo and saw some cool Pokemon goods, although they were quite expensive... $15 for a scrunchie... We ended up getting food at this restaurant and going back to our hotel room to unpack. I got the chicken teriyaki combo and the salad tasted like onion which I hated but I still ate it anyway because didn't want to waste it.

We got back to our hotel and played some Mario Kart Double Dash to end the night.

{Day 1}

It was time for the show to get on the road. I woke up and dressed up as Satoko from Higurashi and met up with [tumblr.com profile] snarkposts (Ash) and his sister. Just derped around while waiting for the Dealers Hall to open. (I'm used to Dealers Hall so I'll label it that, Exhibition Hall just sounds derp). There were so many people around, I wish i had a free hand and the height to really photograph it.

When it was close to opening, this dude hit a drum to signal that it was almost time. It scared me at first because sudden BOOM! Once they signaled the dealers hall to be open I ran up the stairs and headed straight for the Mangagamer booth only to find that all they had was Higanbana first night so I bought some UtaPri things to get to the $30 mark to get an Autograph ticket for Ryukishi07. Though wow, UtaPri and Mangagamer, that was such an unusual mix.

I ended up roaming around after buying my SAO shirt. I couldn't find the KEY booth (until the next day bleh) so I ended up getting overwhelmed and lost around the hall. I bumped into [plurk.com profile] taiyakinonaku (Berri) while being all "WTF IS GOING ON HERE I'M SO LOST HELP".  We walked around Artist Alley and I bought my Sayo Yasuda print that I saw in the Umineko tag a while back, so happy.

I met up again with Cyn and we walked around artist alley in search for [tumblr.com profile] ivory-ice (Ivory). We found her and I got so happy since POKEANI PERSON AHHHHH. Yeah we made plans to watch the DBZ movie premiere after the hall closed and went on our way. Ate bacon dogs outside since we were hungry. After that split up from Ash and lined up for the Opening Ceremonies only to find out they were delayed and had to leave early for the DBZ premiere. Found out later that Ryukishi wasn't even there so it wasn't a total lost.

Met up with Ivory and walked towards the theatre while talking briefly about PokeAni, so glad to find people willing to talk about latter seasons. Cynpai left us and went to Starbucks while Ivory and I went into the theatre being all confused whether to get a ticket or not, but we just went in. It felt surreal being with Let's Players, Voice Actors, and just wow. I took pictures with Ivory and also with myself at the DBZ photo booth-esque thing, it was so fun.

The movie was pretty good. So many good parts, but I won't spoil for those that haven't seen it. After the movie I had Ihop with Ivory and her friend. Though before that we managed to see Markiplier and take pictures with him, that was a great way to end my first day in AX.

{Day 2}

Cosplayed as a Pikachu today~ I went to the Parasyte site and took a picture with the parasyte to get a free yogurt thing. I met up with Ash and basically just wandered around dealers hall. I found the KEY booth finally and ended up buying the Clannad T-shirt and the Planetarian VN. I wandered around Mangagamer and Aniplex's booth again to see if I should get anything. Mangagamer still didn't have anymore Umineko though I ended up buying the abec SAO Wallscroll that was exclusive for the Convention.

Split up from Ash and wandered around to find the Steins;Gate stuff and ended up buying the Visual Novel. I was tempted to buy another game to get the free one, but didn't think they were worth it. I can think of three others, but I just wasn't feeling like buying eroge. I guess my mind was still rooting for Umineko, but nope.

I failed in trying to get autographs from DBZ which bummed me out a bit after watching the movie the night before. Though I saw the cutest Pikachu plushies, it made me forget about my failed attempts at getting autographs. It was also from one of the brands that I always wanted: LITTLE TALE PIKACHU. I was ecstatic and ended up seeing Ash again to help me decide whether to get it or the Cosplay Pika one, but Little Tale Pika won in the end.

We got lost trying to get to the Pokemon Gathering and by the time we got there, I just wasn't feeling up to participating. I just felt so underdressed. Also the fact that they were singing the first english OP made me cringe. That song is just overdone to me now. Every single time I see a Pokemon gathering they have to belt that out, like NO PLS STOP.

Met up with [twitter.com profile] pewpewpikachu for the first time and we reminisced on Gaia days. We left the Gathering (met up with Cynpai again) and went to Dealers Hall to browse art again and also get my KeiRika commission. Ended up commissioning another person for KeiRika. Saw voice actors for Gir from Invader Zim and Hellsing. Visited Ivory again and bought myself a Hestia Pikachu print.

Cynpai and I partook in an inking class and just wow inking is hard. We out to eat at Denny's and got ourselves build our own sandwiches. We tried going to the Draw Meet, but there were too many people so we went back to the hotel and played Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros on the Wii U. My first time playing both on the Wii U and man I sure do suck haha.

{Day 3}

Today was the day I was looking forward since Ryukishi was first announced. It was the 07th Expansion day! I was so excited, though my wigs didn't want to cooperate at first since it kept slipping and falling. Had to put a million bobby pins to keep it up. Thanks to [plurk.com profile] BofuButt (Bofu) and Cynpai for being my cosplay fixers when the people at the desk couldn't. The cosplay fix-up station wasn't really a fix-up station... I understand it'll be much help for those that know what they're doing but when people like us who don't know anyyythingg, well it just derp what do.

After that we left to get Boba at the Boba truck and it was some good boba. Bofu and I left to go to the 07th Expansion Gathering and we took a few pics. I was so sad that we had to leave early, but if we stayed we were going to miss Ryukishi and we couldn't miss that now couldn't we.

We derped around trying to find Kentia Hall and met up with Berri in line. I was so excited. I had to be headpatted by my Keiichis (Ash & Bofu) to stay calm. Though I still was freaking out about being near Ryukishi. I just took the time to hand out every last bit of my 07th Expansion charms that I thought i made too much of.

Once it came to my turn. I was just so speechless I forgot to ask him to draw a Rika sketch for me like I planned. I just saw him smiling and giggling at his own little drawing that I just couldn't say a thing. Though when he finished drawing I tried speaking to him in Japanese, but so broken. I couldn't form sentences like I wanted. He was surprised that I had him sign Sui and when I asked for a photo he was more than happy to take a picture and then the look on his face when I gave him my fanart of Beatrice, it was so worth drawing it for him.

The translator finally piped in and said to me that he said he'll show it to his staff and he really liked it. I was just so happy to see him and he recognized me as Rika from Higurashi.

After that we caught up with Cynpai and roamed around for artist alley again, I wanted to see KL's art and I was so happy to find more Higurashi prints. Went to the Kinokuniya booth to try and find the single I never got to buy and ended up getting the Umineko artbook.

We all ended up going to this Japanese resturant for dinner but the food was such a rip-off. It tarnished my nickname, Katsu. It was named Katsuya.

Bofu and I left to go to the mangagamer panel and it was okay. The usual eroge releases and then when they announced Ryukishi, he and I just stood up and yelled at Ryukishi going "YEAHHH GO RYUKISHI!!!!!!" I bet we got a lot of odd looks but yeah. Umineko was a great announcement and to think I had the pachinko artbook, it all seemed so ironic.

After that I split up from Bofu. I got yelled at by this person for trying to use the bathroom and it really made my night go down the drain. Used the next nearest bathroom, didn't feel as urgent after being yelled at. It was just weird since he told me this wasn't a Burger King for some reason and I showed him my ID/Badge and he told me to get out. Just weird.

Went back to the hotel feeling all ick. I ended up getting Pizza with Anthony and Orion to help that feeling go down. Then started packing since we left the next day.

{Day 4}

The last day~

Dressed up as Satoko again and took some last pictures before saying goodbye to the guys. Cynpai and I left to go to the con one last time for the panel it was so great! He was so animated and I had the chance to ask whether Rika would grow up to like Keiichi in the future and he said there was a high possibility that would be the case. That was just so great.

It took all I had to talk to him and be a few feet from him to ask my question and I just teared up in happiness. After that I left the panel to go to the airport and flew back home reading more SAO Progressive.

Basically the only downsides were what happened with that guy and the fact that most of the time I had no service for some odd reason???

This convention was really great! It made me really want to go to more conventions in the future.
epika: ※ Hayate & Nagi {Hayate Movie} (☆ {Restrain} let me at them)
So winter, what have I done besides ごろごろ?

So I accomplished my anime goal! In the 1Ks now baby! So I pretty much just marathon'd most of the animu that my friend gave me the day before I went back home for break. My internet's download speed is pretty low for some odd reason?? I don't know. The upload speed is fine, but huh... it's weird. Also, school internet is just like a breath of fresh air, which is just surprising.

Anyways, I ended up watching the rest of GTO for my 1K anime. I see why it's regarded as a classic. It was actually pretty good. I expected it to be like a normal school comedy, ,but dang. I was surprised by the lack of censors but given the time, copyright wasn't that highly regarded? It showed Ape Escape footage! f

I took a step back from reading Visual Novels this time. I finally finished Rose Guns Days Season 2. I was really grateful that the ending wasn't as nerve-wracking as Season 1! I had a feeling it would be a cliffhanger, but it was, alright. Nothing really "OMG WTF???" It was just like "Oh, well I guess I'll wait for the next one to see what happens.

Now what really surprised me was having my first Light Novel marathon. I thought it would be Index that would do this, but you can all thank a certain Extra Edition to pop up at the least remaining hours of 2013!

Yes, this series was SWORD ART ONLINE.

The most controversial series in 2012???

I seem to like controversial stuff.......

Anyways, so after watching and skipping around the recap, I found myself motivated to actually read the novels. I downloaded the latest ones since I only had up to volume 10 at the time I decided to download them last year. I was lucky that by the time I read Vol 13, it was already fully translated.

Ah man, my emotions, my rants, my love for SAO grew with each and every volume.

So by the end of the week, I pretty much marathon'd 13 volumes. I wanted to see what would happen next and boy was I surprised. Although those info dumps were hard to get through.

I will forever lol at the fact that it referenced the infamous seizure episode of Pokemon and how now we're in California???

To end it, I visited a friend and ate her homemade food and chocolate while watching Monsters Inc.

Haha, wow I just figured out what cross-posting meant.

I'm smart.

Though anyways, this is a response I made to this collumn on ANN, I just thought I would place it here.

A few days ago, I just finished a game that I never expected to actually finish. Kingdom Hearts. Yes, I am pretty late to the fandom, but oh well! Better late than never, yeah? Well I restarted the game back in April for Spring Break. I was influenced by watching Pewdiepie play it, sad that he discontinued it, but hey he inspired me to continue on! The first time I actually played was the beginning at a friend's house in middle school, then I restarted again in 2010, during Fanime, and then finally restarted for the last time back in April.

Though before I got to play it, I read a bit of the manga. I remember it was really adorable and I got really into it, but then I stopped keeping up with the releases and eventually forgot about it.

Stopped playing after Spring Break since school and then finally finished it a few days ago. Ah the pain of that three-course battle before the final battle. I just hated having to restart every single time I died. Took me a while before getting to Ansem. Even that was a pain in itself. Especially when he went all Cloud on me and killed me all those times.

The ending made me lots of feels. I've seen clips of the ending, but really it tugged on me when I actually saw it on tv, when I actually played the final boss. uguu, I want to play II @W@ I've been watching cutscenes from Chain of Memories, 365 days, and now currently Birth By Sleep. I also watched the timeline video, uu. I want to know more of this series.

And so another year of Fanime has past. The major difference is that I actually went for all four days this time, five if you count Day 0. I feel more accomplished this year than the other years I've been going to it. I'm so happy I got to finally experience a full con this year. It will be a long time before this will happen again.

Ahh, only a day after the convention ended and my feet still hurt from walking everywhere all weekend.

Derpy me. Accidentally clicking the wrong thing and derp, my whole entry goes away. image

Scatterbrained entry is scatterbrained.

Sigh. School starts on wednesday and my schedule is all wack I say. Been feeling lost and insecure lately, though mostly all jittery from school ever so coming closer. At least I have my friends to help me through all this. image

Sadly I did not get to read any visual novels which just hit me. I however got reacquainted by gaming. Niichan sent me Ocarina of Time to play and lent me his special PS2 to play FFX. However, my goal to finish FFX was all for naught due to me derping for a week. At least I still have the weekends.image

This break's anime goal was to get to 900! Heh. How time flies. Last winter break it was 800.

All the feels guys. Rainbow had a lot of feels. Though same with Big O and Wolf's Rain. Oh and I finally watched the Gurren Lagann movies. I remembered how much I loved watching this anime, even though it was a condensed version of the anime. That also had FEELS. Feels central dsflsd. image

So after succeeding on my anime goal, I decided to watch something new. I didn't feel up to watching any new anime just yet so I decided to watch Doctor Who. I wanted to see what the hullabaloo was about. My friends both in real life and online kept talking about it and I always felt left out. image

Needless to say, I'm addicted.image

Still need to get used to the 11th doctor. (I marathon'd Seasons1 - 4 in one week, but also started Season 5.) 10th doctor is my favorite out of all of them, hehe. Ooh David Tennant. I also got one of my cousins addicted to it since we watched six episodes before she left for home.

Anyways, now to go back to watching Niichan play Majora's Mask. image
epika: ※ Keiichi & Rika {Higurashi: HYOS} (☆ {Sick} Ah... can't take much more)

Well it's been a while since I've written a journal entry on here. I tried to make it more frequent, but nope. Haha, well here's a post reflecting my thoughts at the moment.

Ah. School. I thought this semester was going to be great and less stressful, but I find myself feeling depressed a lot. Two of my friends whom I've thought would have been awesome to have as a fellow classmates turned out to make me feel horrible. Sometimes I feel like they're a better person than me at times.

  • One of them always talks to the girl next to them. It just makes me feel like I'm a third wheel especially when they talk Spanish to each other. Like hi, I know you enjoy talking to her but what about me? I feel like she doesn't notice me until after class ends. Gah.
  • Well I found out the other friend is an overachiever. She tells me all the time how she wants As. A-'s are not As. She makes me feel so bad for having the grades i have. Just ugh.
I know comparing myself to others is not really healthy nor does it help, but I can't help doing it. It just plagues my mind.

Tests. Well thanks to crashing at midnight on Thursday totally screwed me over in terms of studying. I was going to study on Friday, but I ended up crashing again. The same story goes for Saturday except I kept taking naps after naps. Body was practically telling me, "SLEEEEEEP GDI!"  Sigh.

So basically I'm screwed since the tests are BOTH on tuesday. I mean seriously. I was so close to being lucky and not having the same situation as the first midterm. Though lo and behold, I have Statistics and Human Life Span on the same day. AGAIN.

I... need to focus on Statistics though so I guess I'll glance over Human Life Span. Sob. Once again I still hate statistics. I just can't understand it. I mean try as I might... deciphering the problems I was never good at word problems back in regular math. Sob.

Roleplaying. I'm trying hard not to drop everything I really am. Though it's understandable with school and all. DARN YOU SCHOOL.

Arcanarium - ...I really need to canon review Mayuri so bad. Perhaps in the summer I'll read the Steins;Gate VN.
Asgard - Well I need to tag Shannon around more, but she's happy that more people from Rokkenjima are appearing here. Though she'll still feel depressed in not being strong enough to help people.
Demeleier - ...well crap. I need to stop forgetting about this place. Sob. I'll most likely get either booted or a warning... I really like playing here as well, but... sob... need more cast.
DramaDramaDuck - I love playing Rika here so much. She really opening up to people especially about her situation. Rika will be in Tatarigoroshi-hen now. She'll be in real tears now.
Mayfield - Hayate... GO OUT AND MEET PEOPLE ALREADY. :P Though yeah he's still surprised over Nina not remembering him, but he's trying to make her feel less scared.
Route - Oh Rena, Rena. She needs to defeat the gym leader already... she's still sad about Yuuri and Keiichi leaving, but she's coping. She's trying to catch up to Rika.
epika: ※ Madokami {Madoka 12} (☆ {Wishful} becoming useful to everyone)
So as I sit here watching "The Wallflower" on Hulu, break has finally ended.

Sigh.

Well it was bound to end eventually. No use dragging it longer. In just a few hours my first class for the spring semester will start and I'm still awake just because I feel the sudden need to start this blog off.

Let's see. So far, I've had the delight to see my friends again. There's still a few more I need to see again, but I've seen the majority! Hopefully I can find friends in my other classes besides Alina ( and Larry. Alvanny may be in my Health Statistics class, but I won't know until Thursday for the time being. Hmm... come to think of it, if Alvanny is in my Stats class the only class I won't know anyone is EdCo. Though I'm sure that the class will help me since it explores other subjects.

Earlier today, I attended a Health Science meeting with Alina that was from 12:30pm to 5pm. Ah. It was so long and so tiring. 12:30pm - 3pm we sat in that huge room and the rest we went to three rooms in another building each for 40 minutes (Internships, Advising, and Getting Involved workshops). They sucked up my energy, but still I learned a lot from the major. It's pretty interesting. I just need to see how the classes are like, hehe.

Ahh, this'll be the first semester in a while that I won't be able to meet up with Hisaam. I miss him so~ Niichan come backkkkkkk~ Though I can wait~ I will majorly glomp/tackle/cling onto him when he comes back from China. kukuku~

In any case, back to Winter Break.

I've accomplished my visual novel & anime goals for this break! So happy~

I read Umineko Chiru EP8: Twilight of the Golden Witch (also Umineko Hane, but I'll count it as part of Umineko), Higurashi Kai EP8: Matsuribayashi-hen, Tsukihime, Katawa Shoujo, Hatoful Boyfriend, and Chaos;Head. If you've seen my plurks/tumblr posts or talked to me at messenger at the time, I would have told you I was reading one of these. So intense; I gather that I spent over 100 hours all together, but that's just my guess. I think if I hadn't finished any of these, I would have started and FINISH the Clannad visual novel. Though, I will save that for another day... perhaps Spring Break?

The next visual novels I need (other than Clannad) to read are Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no Shoujo and G-senjou no Maou. I may go read Kana ~Imouto~ as well, but the others above are in priority. However when the translation for Higanbana no Saku Yoru Ni is released, I'll drop everything and read that. Kyaaa Ryukishi07~ Hmm... though Never7 is may be coming out soon as well so I'll drop everything after Higanbana? Haha, we'll see when the times comes. Ahh~ There's also Forest... thinking of reading that too... and Steins;Gate... Sob. So many visual novels, so little time.

Now as for my anime goal, I have completed about 800 anime on Myanimelist. After my visual novel spree, I got onto the anime bandwagon and marathoned series~ The 800th was Ga-Rei Zero. The ending made me so sad, uguu~ Kaguraaaaa~, Yomiiiii~

So basically I was nearly a hikikomori for the break. I still went outside at times, but... still hehe.
