ܠܝܠܐ

Assyrian Neo-Aramaic
Etymology
Disputed:
- Possibly originally the plural formation of Aramaic לֵילְיָא/ܠܹܠܝܵܐ (lēlyā),
- Otherwise from Aramaic לילא/ܠܹܝܠܹܐ (lēlē), the absolute state of Aramaic לֵילְיָא/ܠܹܠܝܵܐ (lēlyā)
Ultimately from Proto-Semitic *layl-; compare Arabic لَيْلَة (layla), Hebrew לַיְלָה (láyla) and Akkadian 𒆥𒋝 (līliātum).
