Inherited from Ottoman Turkish بترمك (bitirmek, to finish, to complete),[1] from Ottoman Turkish بتمك (bitmek, to terminate, to come to an end), from Proto-Turkic *büt- (to end),[2][3] morphologically bit- +‎ -ir +‎ -mek.
