Related to Latvian lenta (board, plank), Proto-Slavic *lǫtъ (linden bast) (whence Russian лут (lut, bast, bark of a linden), also diminutive *lǫtъka), from Proto-Balto-Slavic [Term?], ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *lenteh₂; compare Albanian lëndë (timber; matter), Proto-Germanic *lindō (linden).[1][2]
