From late Proto-Germanic *kirikǭ (whence also Old Dutch and Old Saxon kirika, Old English ċiriċe), from Koine Greek κυριακὸν δῶμα (kuriakòn dôma, Lord's house), from Ancient Greek κύριος (kúrios, lord).
