Etymology

From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Old Galician-Portuguese convosco, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Latin cum + vōbīscum. Displaced Old Portuguese vosco.

Pronunciation

Pronoun

convosco

  1. with you (plural)
    • Assim pois vós sabeis de tudo, Gregório de Mattos
Convosco meu ser se abraça, e não pareçam delírios procurar cândidos lírios da vossa divina graça.
With you my existence hugs itself, and shall not look deliriums look for candid lilies of your holy grace.

Usage notes

  • Despite the fact the pronoun vós is used in a few dialects of Portugal, it contrasts with vocês in the whole country
  • In Brazil, vós became vocês outside archaic and liturgical occasions, like in most dialects of Portugal, but the other forms (vosso, vos and convosco) disappeared too.
