Albanian

Etymology

Variant of dialectal ap, from Proto-Albanian *apa, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁epye/o-, from *h₁ep- (to take). Compare Latin apīscor (I grasp), Ancient Greek ἅπτω (háptō, fasten, bind), Old Armenian ունիմ (unim, possess). The verb is suppletive with past dhashë and participle dhënë from Proto-Indo-European *deh₃-.
