Etymology

From Germanic *khauzjianan. Cognate with Old Saxon hōrian (Dutch hooren), Old High German hōren (German hören), Old Norse heyra (Swedish höra), Gothic 𐌷𐌰𐌿𐍃𐌾𐌰𐌽.
