[edit]From Tavringer Romani pavli, pavali, pava, pavani (“bottle”), cognate to Traveller Norwegian pavvali, pavvani (“bottle”). Nominalization of Romani pi- (“to drink”), with an infinitive suffix -va found in other Romani varieties (but not in Scandoromani), e.g. Kalo Finnish Romani piāvā (“to drink”).
