a Battletoads rom hack. Created with Click Team

[edit]

First of all, look at the "cite" (which is first-person and doesn't qualify in the first place) in context. "shut your *** *** mouth and take my word for it" sounds far more like humor than a reliable source. Also, the Battletoads engine used large sprites (this game uses small ones), 3-d movement (IWBTG uses 2d), and a damage meter (ITBTG uses 1-hit kills). Also also, if it were a hack of an NES game, it would run on NES hardware. It doesn't. And finally, there is this post on the IWBTG forums, where he explains how he made the game in response to someone asking if it was a Battletoads hack. That said, the answer "It's a Battletoads hack" probably belongs someplace in the article, but not stated as fact.--UsaSatsui (talk) 14:09, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There we go, a forum post. Congratulations, you managed to disprove it with fact. Try doing that first next time. --Ifrit (talk) 04:23, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No need to be rude about it. Truth be told, I thought it was pretty obvious that the answer wasn't a serious one...--UsaSatsui (talk) 07:04, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Why don't we just remove it altogether? It seems a lot like sarcasm, and the question was probably asked by a relatively young/new user who had seen the **** Battletoads video with that guy screaming (O Riley or something), so he/she thought that the game might be a rom hack because it's just as hard. 24.18.240.159 (talk) 02:43, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Homestar Runner Reference?

[edit]

Isn't the title and plot just a big reference to the Stinkoman Strong Bad Email? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.184.116.156 (talk) 15:20, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In regards to the POV statement of the game being difficult

[edit]

It is allowed as per WP:DUE, as it is the majority point of view; please see the second bulleted item, If a viewpoint is held by a significant minority, then it should be easy to name prominent adherents;.— dαlus Contribs /Improve 10:04, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the website says its a "difficult" and "unfair" game. Though that is opinion, it's from the creator who wanted to make the game difficult to play. I know there is a wikipedia guideline on this. I just forgot which one. 24.18.240.159 (talk) 02:43, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, the line in the article that states that the game is difficult is not sourced to the creator, but to an article on Boing Boing dot net.— dαlus Contribs /Improve 07:09, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
But if it was sourced to the creator, it would be fine, correct? I would think yes, but it's POV (but then, the creator intended to make it this way). 24.18.240.159 (talk) 19:27, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, as to this information, please remove the POV statement, as, for the statement to be included, it must be a 3rd party source that is not trivial in the matter, and as to the current sourcing of the statement, it is a conflict of interest.— dαlus Contribs /Improve 19:30, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If it isn't 'hard', then it must be something else, i.e 'easy' or 'intermediate'. Since this games default difficulty setting is 'Hard', along with the games website describing it as 'very hard', along with the fact that every screen contains at least three unpredictable ways for you to die.... Can we just take common sense into consideration?—Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.15.15.120 (talkcontribs)

Unfortunately we can't, as that would be original research, which is against policy. It must be verifiable by a third-party source which is not trivial in it's mention of the game.— dαlus Contribs /Improve 04:26, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well actually, the Guinness Book of World Records: Gamer Edition lists me in Trivia as having made what they'd probably consider the hardest game ever. It's a pretty silly blurb in the trivia section, but that sounds like a legit source.--Kayin (talk) 20:09, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The following discussion is an archived discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the proposal was consensus for move.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 08:36, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move

[edit]

I recently moved this page to I Wanna Be the Guy, since "the" is an article and thus not capitalized in titles, but my edit was reverted by Daedalus969 without any discussion whatsoever. Apparently, Daedalus969 is unaware of capitalization rules and standards. So, I'm listing this page at Wikipedia:Requested moves to get it back, and here's why:

  • Wikipedia:Manual of Style (trademarks) states: Follow standard English text formatting and capitalization rules even if the trademark owner considers nonstandard formatting "official"
  • which is re-emphasized at Wikipedia:Manual of Style (capital letters): Trademarks should be written in a way that follows standard English text formatting and capitalization rules.
  • Video games, being similar media to albums, follow the same rules as albums, spelled out at Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums#Capitalization: All other words except for coordinating conjunctions (and, but, or, nor), prepositions (to, over, in, for), articles (an, a, the), and the word to in infinitives. Note that short verbs (Is, Are, Be, Do) and pronouns (Me, It, His) are capitalized.

I was under the impression that this sort of thing was common knowledge. = ∫tc 5th Eye 05:01, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, at least I know about it now. :)— dαlus Contribs /Improve 05:38, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Hey, we're all learners here. And of course those who recognise this learn a lot faster and less painfully than those who don't... This sounds like real progress. Andrewa (talk) 13:37, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The above discussion is preserved as an archive of the proposal. Please do not modify it. (yesh, right...) Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

Impossible mode save state

[edit]

I was under the impression that Impossible Mode has no save points at all; in fact, pressing 'R' to restart takes you straight to the file select screen again. Can someone confirm/deny the existence of the one save point in Impossible mode, and if there is one, describe where it is on the main article? (My only guess would be the "Evil Save" just before the guy, but I have nowhere near the skill necessary to find out for myself.) SeahawkTim (talk) 14:26, 6 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It is indeed the "Evil Save" that appears in Impossible, although it is only visible for a single frameafter killing the enemy disguised as the save point, requiring split-second timing on the part of the player in order to activate it. However, the only evidence I have of this is anecdotal, so I shall refrain from including it in the article until someone can provide more solid evidence. 137.205.108.102 (talk) 00:04, 14 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Still in development

[edit]

Can I check, am I right in saying that the game is still in a beta version, still under development or am I being a complete diddy? Pacman100 (talk) 11:20, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Neither IWBTG or IWSTKs are in active development. This coming right from the source. The only thing that I've announced that is under development is Brave Earth. --Kayin (talk) 20:10, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

i WANT TO be the guy

platforms

[edit]

you see, I might be wrong but.... I wanna be the guy is developed in Java, so, doesnt it means it can run in other operating systems as well? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.101.154.198 (talk) 21:54, 4 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No. It is NOT written in Java. Nor are programs written in Java inherently usable across multiple operating systems. inclusivedisjunction (talk) 14:20, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on I Wanna Be the Guy. Please take a moment to review my edit. You may add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it, if I keep adding bad data, but formatting bugs should be reported instead. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether, but should be used as a last resort. I made the following changes:
