Intent

[edit]

My intention here is to list information about how characters joined FOX-HOUND, served in it, and left it or were killed. Anything they do subsequently (i.e. going on cyborg rampages or taking over people's minds through grafted limbs) should go in the character or game's wiki-page. Not sure how this one's going to turn out TBH, but I thought it might be a good idea to have a page on the unit.

Reccuring characters are any characters which appear in more than one game. All others go into the game-related sections. Might rename those to be the game names rather than "incidents".

I marked this article with the cleanup tag. It had many spelling and grammar errors, as well as poorly structured paragraphs. I would take a stab at it, but I know nothing of the topic. --SparqMan 20:32, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC)
I decided to remove the recurring characters section and put each character into their respective era. If you think about it, none of the reccuring Metal Gear characters were FOXHOUND members for more than one game. Snake, Fox and Big Boss have all left FOXHOUND in Metal Gear 2, whereas Campbell and Miller are retired in Metal Gear Solid.Jonny2x4 01:19, 11 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
BTW! Should we include the FOX members from MGS3 or put them in a seperate article?
No it would be deleted

Johnny Sasaki?

[edit]

I'm fairly certain Johnny Sasaki is not a member of FOXHOUND. Shouldn't he be removed?

He was definately a Genome Soldier at the start of MGS. How he survived and became a Son of Liberty is anyone's guess. Sockatume 13:11, 6 Dec 2004 (UTC)

I dunno, I was operating under the assumption that the only members of FOXHOUND present were the bosses (and Decoy Octopus)

Ah, I'd always sort of assumed that the Genome Army fell under FOXHOUND's command, but you're right, it's certainly not stated that the Genome Soldiers are part of FOXHOUND. Should be removed. Sockatume 00:15, 7 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Why does it say that Johnny Sasaki is actually Raiden? The reason he is unaffected by the virus is because he doesn't have SOP. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.237.10.162 (talk) 20:20, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Former logo?

[edit]

That "former logo" looks excessively silly. Is it real, or someone's idea of a joke? JIP | Talk 16:45, 29 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It is real. The one on the page came from the box of the Japanese MSX version of Metal Gear. As for the excessive silliness, I think that's kind of the point. --DoubleCross 18:42, May 31, 2005 (UTC)
Was the former logo ever actually used in a game, or was it presented as "former" right from the start? JIP | Talk 06:22, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)
It was used in the first two games (Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake). When those games were released (1987 and 1990) it was the "current" FOXHOUND logo. The new "fox with the knife in its mouth" logo was first used in Metal Gear Solid. --DoubleCross 15:04, Jun 2, 2005 (UTC)
The Logo is also feature in the background when reading through "previous missions" on the Original Metal Gear Solid. -- The Pain 16:22, 30 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
It's also the logo that appears on Meryl's paint tatoo and also when you get the FOXHOUND rank in MGS3. Yeah. :p Jonny2x4 18:22, 10 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ocelot/Big Boss

[edit]

This was in the Revolver Ocelot section:

Recruited into FOX-HOUND by Big Boss, despite being responsible for the loss of his eye.

According to Hideo Kojima, in the R book that came with the Metal Gear Solid 3 "Premium Package", Ocelot didn't join FOX-HOUND until after Big Boss was dead (although the reason given for Ocelot joining was that he wanted to be in the same unit Big Boss was in). So I can't see how Big Boss could have recruited him. Unless there's something I'm missing (like an official source, that possibly contradicts Kojima's statement), it doesn't really belong. I'm guessing it's more "fanon" stuff. --68.33.179.8 23:50, 31 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I was under the impression he was never a member of FOXHOUND. He obviously knew Liquid, hence Solidus had Ocelot Encourage Liquid to cause the incident at shadow moses! As he is stated as a member of FOXHOUND during this time, it is more likely he was recruited by LIquid, i am pretty sure he did not exist in Big Boss' or Roy Cambells days! The only member of Solid Snakes Infiltration team who knew him during Shadow Moses was Naomi! So it must have been recruitment by Liquid! --The Pain 12:23, 6 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Acronym?

[edit]

So FOX was Force Operation X (X=10?). But does FOX HOUND have an Acronym? Psi edit 20:07, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

As revealed in the recent MGS: Portable Ops information, FOXHOUND is so named because it was formed to hunt down the renegage FOX unit. WtW-Suzaku 06:53, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Logos

[edit]

MGS: Portable Ops uses the MGS-era FOXHOUND logo, despite it taking place at the founing of the group. As such, I believe we can safely assume that the logo change is case of artistic license, and not based on any in-game time periods.

How is the real spelling of FOX HOUND?

[edit]

I have a problem. I wanted to change my nickname in one site to Fox hound, but then since then I have seen many variations of the name. I can give you som examples.

In the japanese manual of both Metal Gear and Metal Gear Solid: Integral, the words spells FOX HOUND. The japanese version of Metal Gear Solid the word spells FOX HOUND. In the american version of Metal Gear, the word spells both Fox Hound and FOX-HOUND. In the japanese book The Art of Metal Gear Solid, the word spells FOX-HOUND. In the american version of Metal Gear Solid 2, the word spells FOXHOUND.

So, I have seen FOX HOUND, FOX-HOUND, Fox Hound and FOXHOUND, so what is the most canon?

FOXHOUND. --24.60.75.3 15:57, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Actually that's totally wrong. It's "FOX-HOUND". If no one believes me, check out these pages:

http://www.unitfoxhound.com/ http://www.metalgearsolid.org/show_features.php?id=652 http://uk.gamespot.com/gamespot/features/all/gamespotting/083101/p4_01.html http://www.konami.jp/gs/game/metalgear/

Go ahead, don't agree with me, but I think I've wrapped up the issue. Come on, even the official site spells it like that (if you can speak japanese that is). --ChaosSorcerer91 14:25, 05 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

MGS for PS spells it FOX-HOUND. MGS2, MGS3 and the trailer for MGS4 all spell it FOXHOUND. The Twin Snakes remake (which is not totally canon) also spells it FOXHOUND. I'd argue that FOX-HOUND was accurate, but FOXHOUND has superceded it. --Le Scoopertemp [tk] 16:14, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It was requested that this article be renamed but the procedure outlined at WP:RM#How to request a page move did not appear to be followed, and consensus could not be determined. Please request a move again with proper procedure if there is still a desire for the page to be moved. Thank you for time! -- tariqabjotu (joturner) 01:35, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You're wroooong ChaosSorcerer91, its spelt フォックスハウンド on the official site. AHahhahaha Zerocannon 01:42, 2 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reason for Why it's called Foxhound

[edit]

In the trailer for Metal Gear Portal ops, it appears that the reason for Foxhound being called Foxhound, is to hunt Fox members. Hounds are dogs that are used for hunting, and Snake gets a group together to hunt the members of Fox. So that's probably why it's called Foxhound. Hounds that hunt the foxes.

Snake specificly tells the member of foxhound at the end of the trailer to "hunt" the members of fox.

Can anyone add this info to the main article?

It would be more useful to know why the unit was named "FOXHOUND" in 1987 by Hideo Kojima, I would think. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 06:48, 15 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Prbably, anyway we shouldn't really add the hunting thing until MPO comes out

†he Bread 03:47, 19 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think I've found a reason why the unit named FOXOUND. We all know that Metal Gear has many influences from the film "Escape from New York", one of Kojima's favourites. The same release date of that film (10 July 1981 as you ca see on imdb.com http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082340/ ), there was another film released named The Fox and the Hound. It's an animation film and Kurt Russell( Snake Plissken on the film Escape from New York) voiced one of the main character as you can see on imdb. I think that all these correlations might have a meaning. "We could ask" Kojima about that. I might be wrong but I wanted to write about it.

P.S.: Sorry for my bad english. :) Xaserman 19:00, 27 February 2007 (UTC)xaserman[reply]

ranking system

[edit]

Can you add the ranking system to the artcle, In the Metal Gear timeline page it says that that fox is the highist rank in fox hound and was awarded to grey fox, it also says that snake is the second highist what was given to solid snake. User:Kami-Sama

I don't know if that is the ranking system, I am in the process of linking each entry to its source but I have come stuck at a few and that's one of them †he Bread 23:05, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The codename "Fox" is given to those that can present a very high level of skill. "Snake" was the codename given personally to David by Big Boss because of his lineage. It is most likely that the rank "Snake" isn't in the ranking system and was given to both Solid and Liquid by their father. I doubt that Big Boss would put his legendary name into the ranking system. So Fox may be the highest rank for agents while Snake was only given to two special individuals. The first name like "Gray" and "Solid" are used as personal identifiers. If there was more than one Fox on a mission they would be addressed by their personal identifier. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 153.91.165.91 (talk) 23:58, 25 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Can we use an image of the actual FOX Unit logo instead of the Kojima Productions version? For accuracy's sake and all.--Snake Liquid 17:07, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
