Translation
[edit]Does anybody know if there are any plans to translate the novels the crest of the stars/banner of the stars series is based on? I like what I've seen of the series, but I get the feeling the books are even better. crazyeddie 19:18, 11 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- I haven't heard anything about this and I am afraid this is not being done. Unfortunately, there is very little done in the field of translations of books into English from foreign languages - as a reader of Polish, and Russian sf literature, I can vouch that there are some beautiful sf/fantasy pieces that English reader is missing... :( --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus 08:21, 12 Jul 2004 (UTC)
Kin of the Stars
[edit]There is a mention of an OVA called, "Kin of the Stars", yet I have not been able to find out anything about this. Can someone verify what this is supposed to be? The only releases I can find reference to are the three TV series (Crest of, Banner of, and Banner II), the Crest of OVA (danshou), and the two movies (retelling of Crest and Banner I). Is Kin supposed to be the fourth series?
- Not that I know of. Possibly a mistake - if it is unconfirmed by animenfo and anidb I guess we can safely remove the. I didn't know the movies existed, though. What are their names? Oh, and please consider registering. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 20:03, 25 May 2005 (UTC)
- The movies are known as Crest of the Stars Special Edition and Seikai no Senki Special Edition (www.abhnation.com). They are pretty much a compressed version of their respective TV series, and as far as I can tell, almost all of the footage of the movies is pulled directly from the TV series. There are very short blurbs about them at animenewsnetwork. Js2756 21:09, May 26, 2005 (UTC)
Novels
[edit]Ive read that a U.S. company has aquired the rights to at least some of the novels on a side note it would be interesting for someone who has read more of the literature to discuss the underlying issue of imperialism in the series
- That's great news - can you give us a source? I'd pre-order them ASAP :) --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 06:40, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
- I've modified the English titles of the novels (I and III, II is the same) to match what is shown on Amazon.com. The basic meaning is still the same, I'm guessing that Tokyopop made slightly different word selections when translating the titles. -- Hawaiian717 20:43, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
Official Website
[edit]The official website, www.crestofthestars.com no longer works. Should this be taken out under external links?? 69.181.108.40 —Preceding undated comment added 10:12, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
Related in infobox
[edit]Hi. If the OVAs don't have articles of their own yet, they should get a box in this article, like in RahXephon. See Template:Infobox_animanga. --GunnarRene 01:38, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
- Would definitely be a good idea to make a Seikai no Dansho article. There are two volumes of Seikai short stories published under that title now, which the OAV shares. Doceirias 09:09, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
Manga
[edit]Aren't we missing the mangas? Also released by Tokyopop, so they can be confused with novels. See amazon: [http://www.amazon.com/Seikai-Trilogy-Crest-Stars/dp/1591828570/ref=sr_1_13/102-4337727-4408105?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1184857150&sr=8-13], [http://www.amazon.com/Seikai-Trilogy-Banner-Hiroyuki-Morioka/dp/1591828589/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-4337727-4408105?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1184857333&sr=8-1] and [http://www.amazon.com/Banner-Stars-Seikai-Trilogy-Vol/dp/1591828597/ref=pd_bxgy_b_img_b/102-4337727-4408105?ie=UTF8&qid=1184857150&sr=8-5]. Interestingly my BoS1 has a different cover art ([1]).-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk 15:04, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
Rank of Jinto
[edit]Wasn't Lynn Jinto a Count and not a Duke?—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Oji The Unseen (talkAlexander 04:15, 11 August 2007 (UTC) • contribs).
- in the anime series and manga adaptations. Not quite sure about the orignal novels though. --Eldarone 18:50, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
- Translations I am aware of vary between Count, Duke and a Baron :( It would be best if we could find Japanese original and see how it is translated.-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk 19:08, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
- Hakushaku; dictionaries give count or earl. Duke/Marquis would be Koushaku. Doceirias 19:29, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
- I just double-checked my manga - 'count' is used. Should we agree on that?-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk 20:03, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

- Novel translation says Count as well. Doceirias 20:07, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
It is definitly Count, as the Abh word for his title used in his full Abh name means Count (Dreuc), and Duke is a completely different word and rank in Abh (lymh. Dreuc being the lowest rank of the highest rank strata, and lymh being a rank in the lower strata.68.35.154.85 08:08, 1 August 2007 (UTC)Alexander 04:16, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, his rank is successor to the Count. At the end of the third book, when the death of his father was confirmed did he receive the full social rank of a Count.Mightyname (talk) 17:12, 10 April 2013 (UTC)
Trilogy?
[edit]I don't think it's appropriate to call the three initial books a trilogy. According to the trilogy article, "A trilogy is a set of three works of art that are connected, and that can be seen either as a single work or as three individual works." However, these books are not to be taken as individual works but as volumes of the same work, and they are clearly not independent. This is hinted by the author in the afterword of the third volume, as he explains that we wrote "a novel of about 550 pages". Guillep2k (talk) 14:39, 17 April 2011 (UTC)
New manga?
[edit]Does anyone know what this is: http://comic-meteor.jp/seikaino/
Is it official manga or doujinshi? Apparently 4 chapters were released in 2012. I can't seem to find any English information for it. --Mika1h (talk) 02:23, 16 February 2013 (UTC)
- It's a remake of the Monshou books in manga form. Mightyname (talk) 17:12, 10 April 2013 (UTC)
