Remove overhead photo?
[edit]Overhead photo added, should this be removed? I can easily take others, including the listed building tower if desired. Merlin83b 13:10, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
- It looks good. And more would be better especially as the tower is a listed building. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 13:21, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
Name
[edit]This article should be renamed to 'City Airport Manchester' as that is the new name for the airport. In other words 'City Airport Manchester' linking to 'Barton Aerodrome' should be instead 'Barton Aerodrome' should link to 'City Airport Manchester' and references in the thread should by the new name and maybe have the old name in the first sentence as 'previously named' and maybe the history up to 2007 could be under a Barton Aerodrome header. Also this article on the row on the name change could be added [1]. The Airport operator will also have to change later this month.
--One Pence 10:33, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- Moved your comment down just to make it easier to follow. Have they actually changed the name yet or is it still in the works? By the way as of this morning the UK government is still calling it "Manchester/Barton Aerodrome". CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 14:17, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- Barton Aerodrome is within the city boundaries of Salford NOT Manchester, yet it looks like the Mancunian Sycophants have yet again got their own way. I'm sick and tired that everything is being Manchester this, that or the other. Cayden 22:58, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- The change of name is effective from 1 April 2007 when a new company 'City Airport Manchester Ltd' takes over the operation. This is a brand name only - for aeronautical purposes the name will still be Manchester/Barton. Cayden, the reason it is beig called 'City Airport Manchester' is because it is within Greater Manchester. Squadgy 21:13, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
- The aerodrome is in/near Eccles, its within the boundaries of the City of Salford. Yes, its in the 'county' of Greater Manchester, but it being branded after the 'city' of Manchester, it should have been named 'City Airport Salford', Salford is a city, isn't it?. It doesn't matter anyway, the powers that be will call it what they want and don't bother about local feelings. In fact Manchester City Council has a stake in it, that says a lot with its branding. Cayden 22:28, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
New name
[edit]I fixed the cut and paste creation of the new article. It should have been a move. I also used the new infobox whicj allows several things such as owner/operator and location/served to be seperate. For some reason most countires including the UK list the runway lengths in metres and the airport elevations in feet. Lastly the "Manchester/Barton Aerodrome" name. The government/ICAO is still using that name and may well continue to do so. Governments tend to leave the names alone so there are multiple airpots with two names. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 17:01, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
Late Spring/Early Summer
[edit]I live about 3/4 miles away from the airport and notice a dramatic increase in light aircraft traffic in late spring/early summer months during the evening and well into the night (often hear planes upto 1am) during the winter there is virtually no noise from aircraft. Is there any reason for this? 90.193.114.6 (talk) 21:54, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
Pure Stupidity
[edit]Rather like calling Luton airport 'London Luton Airport' when it's over 30 miles from London or, similarly, calling Reus Airport 'Barcelona Reus Airport' when it's over 60 miles from Barcelona. The World's gone MAD! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.105.203.171 (talk) 12:36, 4 April 2013 (UTC)
- I presume you are on about the name - six miles from the centre of Manchester is not exactly a long way, actually closer to the city then London City Airport. MilborneOne (talk) 21:41, 4 April 2013 (UTC)
Like having the Manchester City coat of arms displayed on a hangar, when it's not even IN Manchester? You couldn't make it up! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.25.94.142 (talk) 22:16, 1 November 2017 (UTC)

City Airport & Heliport → City Airport (Manchester Barton) – Official name and there are many other airports worldwide named or shortened to City Airport (and include Heliports). City Airport will become a disambiguation page. Relisted. Jenks24 (talk) 10:51, 16 August 2014 (UTC) Simply south ...... sitting on fans for just 8 years 20:53, 8 August 2014 (UTC)

- Support highly ambiguous, a large number of city airports, hence City Airport, are also a heliport, the first one in Google Books is Sheffield not Manchester. In ictu oculi (talk) 04:49, 9 August 2014 (UTC)
- (Comment) I have added a link to City Airport at the top of the article for anybody who gets here by mistake. MilborneOne (talk) 09:37, 9 August 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose The name of the Airport is the name of the article, as and when there's a reason to disambiguate then we could do so. Koncorde (talk) 11:44, 9 August 2014 (UTC)
- Why not delete "Sheffield" from Sheffield City Airport & Heliport then? Rightly or wrongly this isn't how WP:Disambiguation on en.wp works, there's a reason in Google Books right now. In ictu oculi (talk) 05:07, 10 August 2014 (UTC)
- If you're going to use google books as "evidence" - then you really shouldn't rely on a link to a book that is a published wikipedia article, that's not how it works at all. Sheffield City Airport is actually the name of Sheffield City Airport...if it should ever re-open named "City Airport and Heliport" then clearly there would be confusion. As it stands there is no confusion, there is no suggestion of confusion (not least because Sheffield City Airport is closed). If someone wants to create a re-direct from City Airport & Heliport, Salford then that would be reasonable, but the proposed renaming is complete gibberish. Koncorde (talk) 10:30, 10 August 2014 (UTC)

- Oppose nothing wrong with the current name as far as I can see to no need to change it to a made up name. MilborneOne (talk) 15:47, 16 August 2014 (UTC)
- Support since "City Airport" seems to be its official name, as others have pointed out. Dicklyon (talk) 05:05, 23 August 2014 (UTC)'
Discussion
[edit]- Any additional comments:
- The website uses "City Airport & Heliport" and we dont have any other article with that name so why do we need to change? MilborneOne (talk) 21:06, 8 August 2014 (UTC)
- Just to note that the suggested name "City Airport (Manchester Barton)" is not the official or common name of the aerodrome. MilborneOne (talk) 09:39, 9 August 2014 (UTC)
- Actually it is official, as shown here. Simply south ...... sitting on fans for just 8 years 15:05, 9 August 2014 (UTC)
- Not really thats just part of the address for the post office to use. MilborneOne (talk) 15:09, 9 August 2014 (UTC)
- The postal address is (according to Royal Mail) "Control Tower, Barton Airport, Eccles, Manchester". Peter James (talk) 22:23, 12 August 2014 (UTC)
- The "about us" page call it "City Airport". Dicklyon (talk) 05:11, 23 August 2014 (UTC)
