[edit]

I am currently merging the articles Foreign medical graduate and International medical graduates into this article. Hope to have it rolled out in a few days. Andrewjuren(talk) 06:26, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed a parked domain from the Links section that only pointed to a site that had nothing to do with IMG's. 90.207.35.126 (talk) 18:27, 23 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Changed title from pathway to Process

[edit]

ECFMG now uses the term pathways to refer to the process to fulfill the clinical skills requirement for certification. I changed the title of the section to process to avoid confusion with the terminology — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.49.184.175 (talk) 11:29, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Possible error

[edit]

There may be an error in this article regarding participation in the Match. According to the National Resident Matching Program's website, it appears that international medical students can participate in the Match prior to receiving their ECFMG Certification (and hence, prior to graduating medical school), so long as they have completed USMLE Steps 1 & 2. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BradAKramer (talkcontribs) 20:59, 3 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Agreement with statement above. I am updating to clarify that. A source I found indicates that one thing is what is possible and another one what is advisable. The article states is needed which is inaccurate. This website: http://rfs.sirweb.org/professional-development/international-outreach/the-ecfmg/ has a good summary. I cite:
"In theory  : You can apply to programs and participate in the match without having everything ready (diploma, Step 1, Step 2 CK and Step 2 CS). You will be able to submit a rank list as long as you have your ECFMG certificate by the NRMP ranking deadline, roughly a month before Match Day (usually mid March).

In reality  : Do not expect programs to send you an interview invitation without an ECFMG certificate. Program directors want to make sure that you are ready to start and that your scores are available. It is still possible to get interviews without a complete application, especially if you approach the program directors, explain your situation and keep them updated about when you’re taking your exams, although this is quite rare and usually only possible if there is a personal relationship."
