Supriyadi Widodo Eddyono (9 September 1976 – 1 January 2018) was an Indonesian activist and researcher. He is known as a founder and executive director of Institute for Criminal Justice Reform (ICJR).
Early life
[edit]Eddyono was born on 9 September 1976 in Medan, North Sumatra, as the son of Salamun Eddyono (1940–2024), a teacher.[1][2] He had two brothers, Aryo Subarkah Eddyono, a journalist, and Luthfi Wigdado, a researcher, and two sisters, Suzanna (born 1971), a lecturer, and Sri Wiyanti Eddyono (born 1973), a lawyer.[2][3] Eddyono graduated from Faculty of Law at Gadjah Mada University.[3]
Career
[edit]Eddyono began his career as a researcher at the human rights institution, ELSAM.[3] After several years working at the institution, he then became an expert staff at the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK).[3] At the independent state commission, Eddyono was one of the intellectual actors who was actively involved in laying the foundations of what and how one of the reformed institutions should guarantee that the principles of the rule of law were properly laid.[3] After working at LPSK, he returned to ICJR, an organization he co-founded, to more specifically push for the slow reform of criminal policy in Indonesia.[3] Eddyono then released several books, including Praperadilan: Teori, Sejarah dan Prakteknya and Compilation of Constitutional Court Decisions and Kompilasi Putusan MK dan Perubahan Kitab Undang-undang Hukum Acara Pidana (KUHAP), which have major implications for the map and development of legal knowledge in Indonesia at present and in the future.[3]
Death
[edit]On 19 December 2017, Eddyono suffered a stroke and was treated at Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital.[4] He died there on 1 January 2018 at 17:00 PM at the age of 41.[4][5] Eddyono was buried at Jeruk Purut Cemetery on 2 January.[1]
