Journalists / A project on the side
I'm struggling to write a biography for a Canadian hockey journalist. Do you want to help? Flibirigit (talk) 03:44, 4 March 2019 (UTC)
- Flibirigit I would love to! HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 03:52, 4 March 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks, check your sandbox. I was surprised this article does not exist yet! Flibirigit (talk) 04:11, 4 March 2019 (UTC)
- Do you think you can make it happen? It's been stuck in my sandbox way too long and not going anywhere. Flibirigit (talk) 04:18, 4 March 2019 (UTC)
- I can try my best. I feel like you have more access to resources than I do (ie. newspaperarchives) so I am a little tentative in my skills if you couldn't find anything substantive. However, my month is really light (yes I know there is not a deadline) so if I were to tackle an assignment this month would be the best time. At worst, this article becomes a stub. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 04:22, 4 March 2019 (UTC)
- It started as spinoff from Russ Conway (journalist), but never went anywhere. My strength is researching the older people. Flibirigit (talk) 04:30, 4 March 2019 (UTC)
- Btw, my membership in newspaperarchives expired, and I am waiting for it to be renewed. That's why I have had time to do these IIHF articles. :-) Flibirigit (talk) 04:33, 4 March 2019 (UTC)
- Oh I see. I believe I have access to my Universities archive of old newspapers (up until 1980-something) but this guy is still pretty recent so I'll do my best! I actually find researching and creating interesting and exciting so this is a nice break from the limited work I have. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 04:35, 4 March 2019 (UTC)
- @Flibirigit: Thank you for the sources you have gathered for me. One of the sources was written by David Shoalts who I was surprised to learn didn't have an article either. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 21:46, 7 March 2019 (UTC)
- If you're interested, go for it. I find that journalists and administrators are overlooked when it comes to writing Wikipedia articles. Flibirigit (talk) 22:12, 7 March 2019 (UTC)
- I think you're right. I also think Dowbiggin is ready to go soon, I just want to smooth out the Eagleson report section. I feel it can be more in depth. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 22:15, 7 March 2019 (UTC)

- I'm finished expanding the Bruce Dowbiggin article now. I will nominate it for DYK later today. What do you think? Flibirigit (talk) 14:54, 18 March 2019 (UTC)
- FYI, Russ Conway (journalist) has died. I will work on some updates to his article shortly. Flibirigit (talk) 15:15, 21 August 2019 (UTC)
- FYI, I finally finished W. A. Fry. I worked on it for three weeks straight. He was a newspaper man who went onto hockey things. You might enjoy the read. Flibirigit (talk) 04:11, 4 November 2019 (UTC)
- Flibirigit, Holy cow. That's a GA waiting to happen. I'm going to work on Rick Cluff (after I add citations to the article commented earlier). HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 04:27, 4 November 2019 (UTC)
Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award
- You might be interested in writing missing articles for recipients of the Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award. I figure they would pass WP:GNG for inclusion. Flibirigit (talk) 07:22, 8 March 2019 (UTC)
- @Flibirigit: Thank you for showing me this, there are only so many hockey players to write about per season eh? This does interest me (from all the research that I've been doing so far I recognize over half of these names already) and it makes me practice a new skill of writing. Hockey players all typically follow the same format and path so I find it interesting to try and write a new way. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 07:29, 8 March 2019 (UTC)
- It would be great if you take on the Elmer Ferguson Award. I'm going to focus more on administrators in Canada, once a few more critical IIHF articles are done. Eventually I do want to work on the Canada Sports Hall of Fame. Flibirigit (talk) 07:34, 8 March 2019 (UTC)
- Of course! HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 07:36, 8 March 2019 (UTC)
- I notice there's an article for Jim Proudfoot from the UK, but no Jim Proudfoot (journalist) from Canada article. If you're willing to take that on, there are several citations available in the Houston & Shoalts book on Eagleson. It's an interesting read if you can get a copy. Flibirigit (talk) 18:13, 8 March 2019 (UTC)
- I am commenting here to make sure this section doesn't get archived. Do you have any Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award in progress? Flibirigit (talk) 16:36, 6 August 2019 (UTC)
- @Flibirigit: I have User:HickoryOughtShirt?4/Ted Damata which could use some improvement. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 19:00, 6 August 2019 (UTC)
- That's one name I am not familiar with. I will post something here when I chose a recipient to write about. Flibirigit (talk) 20:09, 6 August 2019 (UTC)

Scott Young
I did a bit of copyediting at Scott Young (writer). He's an Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award winner, and the father of a couple famous musicians. If you have time, I could use help. Real life is keeping me very busy lately. I'm almost finished a separate project I am working on. Thanks. Flibirigit (talk) 23:17, 19 April 2019 (UTC)
- @Flibirigit: While I don't mind popping in to help (he seems like an interesting guy), it seems this article was copied from here (which in turn, seems to be transcribed from a Globe and Mail article I can't access [1]). If true, this means the entire article needs a re-write. I am not sure why Earwig doesn't pick up on this [2]. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 05:54, 20 April 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks for pointing that out. Sometimes a rewrite is a good thing anyhow. Flibirigit (talk) 11:12, 20 April 2019 (UTC)
- If you have time, this journalist and writer needs an overhaul. Flibirigit (talk) 03:27, 16 September 2019 (UTC)

Philip Ross
I forgot to ask, were you still interested in Philip Ross? He's the journalist who predates the Elmer Ferguson Award. Flibirigit (talk) 14:24, 14 May 2019 (UTC)
- This one will take a bit longer to research and clean up, but you might be interested. It's not on my radar yet. Flibirigit (talk) 03:32, 16 September 2019 (UTC)
- Flibirigit, I can attempt it. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 03:34, 16 September 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks for the improvements. I formatted the references lists as the end, but some citations need more complete info. The introduction paragraph should be made longer too. Do you have time to look into the above and a few uncited statements? Flibirigit (talk) 12:14, 16 September 2019 (UTC)
- Oh ya Flibirigit, I wasn't done. That was just an initial update. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 19:04, 16 September 2019 (UTC)
- Sounds good. I did a few small updates this morning. I will try to get a gravestone photo when I am in Beechwood Cemetery. We could also add any photos from before 1923 which would be exempt from copyright. Flibirigit (talk) 19:11, 16 September 2019 (UTC)
- If you can't get to the cemetery, I live around it as well. It is easily within driving distance. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 19:35, 16 September 2019 (UTC)
- You're much closer than me at a bit over four hours away. I won't be in Ottawa until November at the earliest. Please go ahead if you have time. Flibirigit (talk) 20:08, 16 September 2019 (UTC)
- Oh, shit. I was looking at the one in Vaughan. That was the first hit on google. Sorry! HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 20:11, 16 September 2019 (UTC)
- All in due time. I will get there eventually. I will be finished Torriani this week. Flibirigit (talk) 20:16, 16 September 2019 (UTC)
- Maybe @Earl Andrew: could help! Flibirigit (talk) 20:18, 16 September 2019 (UTC)
- Sorry about that, that was a bit silly of me eh? I am almost done Tim Moriarty. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 20:30, 16 September 2019 (UTC)
- I'm headed to Ottawa this weekend. I will see what I cant get! Flibirigit (talk) 04:45, 8 November 2019 (UTC)
- Flibirigit, sounds good. I'll see if I can get some photos for our IIHF pages. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 04:48, 8 November 2019 (UTC)

Photo added. What do you think about creating Category:Burials at Beechwood Cemetery, or similar? Flibirigit (talk) 03:26, 11 November 2019 (UTC)
- Looks like a good idea. Seeing the long list at Beechwood Cemetery, it looks like a viable category. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 03:30, 11 November 2019 (UTC)
- Do you have time to look into it, and make sure it's named correctly? Flibirigit (talk) 03:35, 11 November 2019 (UTC)
- Flibirigit, I am going to create Category:Burials at Beechwood Cemetery (Ottawa) unless you have a better title. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 04:13, 11 November 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks. It may or may not be renamed, but populating the category is the first step. Flibirigit (talk) 05:02, 11 November 2019 (UTC)
- Done. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 05:10, 11 November 2019 (UTC)

Jack Gatecliff
@Flibirigit: Thanks for the understanding. I've begun Jack Gatecliff at User:HickoryOughtShirt?4/Jack Gatecliff however it is difficult to find reliable sources online. The "best" I found it this which is obviously unacceptable being a fan forum. Do you have any sources you know of?HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 17:59, 16 May 2019 (UTC)
- I think the best place to look is the Newspaper archive. Also, the HHOF archives might be helpful. Flibirigit (talk) 18:13, 16 May 2019 (UTC)
- It looks decent so far. Flibirigit (talk) 03:55, 24 May 2019 (UTC)
- @Flibirigit: Jack Gatecliff is Done but could use some expansion from offline sources. I'm trying to nominate it for DYK. Thinking special occasion request for September 5 (DOD) or date of 2019 winner (seems to be June (?)). HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 20:27, 27 May 2019 (UTC)
- If there is an annual ceremony that could be an anniversary, otherwise I would just go with a regular nomination. I will try to look into offline sources on the weekend. Real life is getting busy this week. Flibirigit (talk) 01:47, 28 May 2019 (UTC)
- I had a look into the newspaperarchives, but didn't find anything new to contribute to Gatecliff. Flibirigit (talk) 15:19, 3 June 2019 (UTC)

Frank Brown
Here's the 2019 nominee [3] Are you interested? Flibirigit (talk) 11:44, 1 June 2019 (UTC)
- @Flibirigit: Ha, you read my mind. I've already begun working on it when I saw the news yesterday . HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 12:55, 1 June 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks again. Flibirigit (talk) 15:10, 1 June 2019 (UTC)
- Any progress on Frank Brown? Flibirigit (talk) 22:42, 6 July 2019 (UTC)
- Yup Flibirigit. Expect it up in a few days! HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 13:39, 7 July 2019 (UTC)
- Flibirigit before I post the article today, do you have a better title suggestion than Frank Brown (writer)? HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 11:53, 12 July 2019 (UTC)
- Frank Brown (journalist) is another option. I don't see either in use at the Frank Brown disambiguation page. Writer could be a better choice if he did more writing than journalism. Flibirigit (talk) 15:16, 12 July 2019 (UTC)
- @Flibirigit: Done as journalist. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 00:03, 13 July 2019 (UTC)
- A citation is missing for the year of birth. Do you remember where it came from? Flibirigit (talk) 13:59, 13 July 2019 (UTC)
- @Flibirigit: In the article linked above, it says “Brown's professional writing career began in 1970 at the age of 18” and here it says he was 65 in 2018. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 14:18, 13 July 2019 (UTC)

Stan Shillington
I have come across the name Stan Shillington several times as Canadian lacrosse writer and researcher. He is inducted into the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame, see profile here. Would you be interested? Flibirigit (talk) 15:12, 21 August 2019 (UTC)
- When I get back from vacation (Saturday) I’ll definitely try. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 15:26, 21 August 2019 (UTC)
- @Flibirigit:, you can check out what I've begun at User:HickoryOughtShirt?4/Stan Shillington. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 05:03, 25 August 2019 (UTC)
- It looks like a good start. Flibirigit (talk) 12:17, 25 August 2019 (UTC)
- Flibirigit, Anything you want to add before I publish? I think I've exhausted all sources I have access to. One thing troubling me is that I think he went to UBC per this as the times add up but I cannot find any other source. If you are able to find any, I would love to add it to expand the article. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 20:25, 27 August 2019 (UTC)
- I looked in the newspaper archives, and found mention of a Stan Shillington who worked in policing in Canada, but I did not find a definite connection to this person. I think you're okay to go ahead with the source as is. Flibirigit (talk) 21:06, 27 August 2019 (UTC)
- Flibirigit He did work for the police force for quite a few years [4]. Thanks though, I'll go ahead and publish. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 21:08, 27 August 2019 (UTC)

John Ross Robertson
Hey Hickory, I am still alive, but focusing on some other projects. The recent additions to John Ross Robertson need some help and other clean up. I did a bit, but more is needed. Btw, he's a hockey/newspaper guy! Are you interested? Flibirigit (talk) 18:48, 2 November 2019 (UTC)
- Ya, totally. I won't be able to do it tonight though. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 19:05, 2 November 2019 (UTC)
Academic ice hockey coach
Check your sandbox. I'm confident you will want to collaborate. Flibirigit (talk) 14:41, 26 November 2019 (UTC)
- Hahaha, you are right. I'll check it out soon. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 21:58, 26 November 2019 (UTC)
- I have imported as much information as I could. Please have a look at the last "uncited source" and complate a proper citation template for it. Maybe "cite journal" is best? I will leave this with you for a few days. I'm sure you will be able to complete the correct infobox as well. Thanks. Flibirigit (talk) 05:12, 28 November 2019 (UTC)
- I have found a few things from the newspaperarchives to add into the research. I noticed you put a birthplace in the infobox. Did you find an extra source that I did not? Thanks. Flibirigit (talk) 19:54, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
- Flibirigit I think I misread one of the sources. This source says Montreal [5] but I am nearly certain they are referring to his university. Very frustrating there is limited information about his youth. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 04:53, 1 December 2019 (UTC)

- Flibirigit I think I misread one of the sources. This source says Montreal [5] but I am nearly certain they are referring to his university. Very frustrating there is limited information about his youth. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 04:53, 1 December 2019 (UTC)
- I have found a few things from the newspaperarchives to add into the research. I noticed you put a birthplace in the infobox. Did you find an extra source that I did not? Thanks. Flibirigit (talk) 19:54, 30 November 2019 (UTC)

Chaucer Elliott
Flibirigit On the topic of saving poorly written/referenced articles, I will be working on Chaucer Elliott if you wish to join. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 03:10, 30 December 2019 (UTC)
- Definitely a good candidate to work on. He's interred at Cataraqui Cemetery in Kingston, according to findagrave. I will look him up next time I am there. It may be a good idea to categorize the burials there, similar to Category:Burials at Beechwood Cemetery (Ottawa). Considering that Cataraqui is a National Historic site, the category seems proper to me. Flibirigit (talk) 03:34, 30 December 2019 (UTC)

@Flibirigit: Surprising news of the day: I was very surprised to learn that BC Supreme Court judge and former commissioner of the Western Hockey League is a redlink. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 04:11, 6 January 2020 (UTC)

The introduction should mention the team he coached, and that the team appeared in four consecutive Memorial Cups, winning two of them. There's a spouse listed in the infobox, but there's no personal life section? Flibirigit (talk) 01:01, 7 January 2020 (UTC)

Scotty Munro
Currently Scotty Munro redirects to the Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy. Please see what you can do about writing him an article if you have time. He's listed here as Roderick "Scotty" Munro. Thanks! Flibirigit (talk) 03:11, 7 January 2020 (UTC)
- Flibirigit, of course. I am consistently shocked by all these red links.HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 03:13, 7 January 2020 (UTC)

Hello
I don't understand why you deleted the page I was working on. LansdowneClub2313 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 20:09, 1 November 2019 (UTC)
- Hi LansdowneClub2313 and welcome to Wikipedia. I know it can be disappointing to have an article delete but there were no sources and it seems like a run-of-the-mill club. Don't be discouraged, making articles is tougher than it seems. I didn't make my first article until I was editing for months. Before making a new article, I recommend checking out The Wikipedia Adventure and WP:YFA. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 21:12, 1 November 2019 (UTC)
Yes, I was just basing it off another article that was very similar. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adelaide_Club LansdowneClub2313 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 02:15, 2 November 2019 (UTC)
- Right, that makes sense but in the first sentence it explains its significance and notability. They also have various in-depth sources. If you wish to re-create this article, I strongly recommend going through Help:Your first article. However, as stated earlier, making pages is more difficult than it looks. I recommend checking out the Wikipedia:Community portal to get more experience. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 02:18, 2 November 2019 (UTC)
EnergyWatch LLC Deletion 2.0
Hi there, thanks for working diligently to keep Wikipedia true. I noticed you deleted my page EnergyWatch, LLC for the second time. Did you read the full article? It states facts and is not promoting the business. I would like to ask what the difference is between it and a page like this one, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EnergyCAP ? Both are not promoting a business but stating facts about a software. Please advise if there are specific changes that can be made to keep it up? Its been entirely rewritten since the last time. Thank you very much.
- As I explained to the IP above, you may want to look at WP:CORP which tells you about the criteria all corporations must pass to have a Wiki article. I also recommend checking out WP:YFA for guidance. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 18:36, 19 November 2019 (UTC)
- As well Nicolettebrenden, you have a very clear conflict of interest with this organization. Please be advised that no one owns this page, you do not have a right to dictate what is written on it (unless it violates our biography of a living person policy) and your best bet would be to walk away. Us volunteer editors often resent that paid or conflict of interest editors write non-neutrally, displaying obvious bias toward themselves or their clients, and write promotionally. A neutral point of view is one of the five pillars of Wikipedia, and is non-negotiable. All of your edits (besides being unsourced) are being added to promote yourself. The encyclopedia is here for knowledge, it isn't here to be used as a personal website.HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 18:39, 19 November 2019 (UTC)

- @Nicolettebrenden:, The majority of the page was unsourced. Large amounts of text were unsourced and what was sourced was to primary sources. To prove notability you must used third party sources. Please be advised that WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. You are also editing without disclosing your conflict of interest which does exist. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 18:45, 19 November 2019 (UTC)

The Admin's Barnstar | ||
I've seen your work here, and it is relentless in the pursuit of a better encyclopedia. Thank you. Admin work is often unrecognised and unrewarded. Hopefully this is a small counter to that. Best, The Mirror Cracked (talk) 06:30, 29 November 2019 (UTC) |

re:
Well as a Carolina Hurricanes fan, I know what we call him. We sometimes call him "Mr. Bo-Time" because he is a top power-play scorer. If you are unaware, the morning after the Carolina Hurricanes score a goal on the power-play, you go into a participating Bojangles' and say "I'm a caniac, and it's bo-time" to receive a free bo-berry biscuit. I may have made edits in the past that are acts of vandalism but were only meant as a joke. This, however, is true. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bentheswimmer11 (talk • contribs) 22:55, 3 December 2019 (UTC)

Fair enough.
I have uploaded a new version, just as something to start building on, and am concerned it may be marked for deletion again. This creature is a unique relict species, and deserves its own wikipedia entry. Is there any other reason this page would be marked for deletion again?

Near Field Communication
Hey, HickoryOughtShirt?4.
I'm pretty new to this so I apologise if I haven't provided any reputable citations.
I've added some pretty genuine use cases for Near Field Communication in my contributions and I imagine that there would be many who could benefit from this knowledge. Additionally, I have also contributed additional information to the timeline which reflects major events relating to NFC technology, namely - "September 2018 - Apple released the iPhone XR, iPhone XS and iPhone XS MAX. Prior to these, iPhone's were not able to natively read NFC Tags. Since the iPhone XS release, Apple has enabled native reading of NDEF format NFC Tags without any apps."
I do confirm affiliation with Neuroe, however, I mention Neuroe specifically because there is no other, easily accessible, online platform that offers an easy marketing solution to NFC. As an end-user, if I was considering using NFC for marketing, I personally would think that it may be too hard to understand or implement, nor have the correct tools to be able to implement. There is a genuine disadvantage for those interested in understanding how they can use this if it is not mentioned.
I find the information I have added to be resourceful to the reader and hope for you to reconsider if I am able to provide a more reputable citation.
Regards,

Please make sure to also do it on your userpage (the red link where your username is) and on Talk:Near Field Communication per our Wikimedia Terms of Use. Here is the main issue; besides the content being unsourced it was very promotional. Please suggest edits on Talk:Near Field Communication using WP:Edit requests. To avoid copyright problems we would like to change the passage and write it in different words. Thank you! SailingRegina (talk) 08:54, 18 December 2019 (UTC)
- SailingRegina I believe the article is still in your sandbox (User:SailingRegina/sandbox). HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 09:02, 18 December 2019 (UTC)
Ah yes, your right! We'll continue adding it there. Thank you! It will be possible to publish it again later, no? --SailingRegina (talk) 11:39, 18 December 2019 (UTC)
- If you fix the issues you can submit it for review. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 23:28, 19 December 2019 (UTC)

Deleted article "National Youth Concert Band of Great Britain"
Dear HickoryOughtShirt?4, is it possible to recover the article "National Youth Concert Band of Great Britain" you have deleted recently? I believe that the ensemble is just as notable and significant as fellow organisations which have Wikipedia pages such as National Youth Wind Ensemble and National Children's Wind Ensemble. Thank you! RickstaDaBest123 (talk) 22:12, 19 December 2019 (UTC)
- I suggest working on it in your sandbox. The only references was a tweet and their own website. Please be advised that creating articles is very hard for new editors. I suggest editing elsewhere to get a feel of how articles are written. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 22:52, 19 December 2019 (UTC)
Hi again
Hi, it's me, Clovermoss. Editing Jeanne Sauvé Memorial Cup and your sandbox for improvements has been on my to-do list for awhile, and I feel bad that I haven't furfilled my end of the teamwork thing. I'm on Christmas break now, so I have two weeks off, and since my search for online sources hasn't yielded as much as I would have liked, I plan to visit my local library soon. Clovermoss (talk) 01:24, 22 December 2019 (UTC)
- Hi Clovermoss, and thanks for the ping. I’ll check out stuff when I get back from vacation. Don’t worry, there’s no rush on this. Take your time. I appreciate your willingness to do off-wiki research. Maybe look at Wikipedia:List of online newspaper archives. We will make a great article . Edits to the Jennifer Freyd page
Hello,
I am trying to update Jennifer Freyd's page because the cited research is out of date and the page overall needs improvement (the existing writing is weak, and Freyd has published many new and better articles since it was last updated). I do not have a conflict of interest. But it looks like my updates are not being accepted. I would appreciate any feedback on how I can continue to improve the page.
Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by CourageAllies (talk • contribs) 22:02, 22 December 2019 (UTC)

Ok, I think I got it now. I am an unpaid volunteer who supports public awareness of the work of Jennifer Freyd. Her wikipedia page is really outdated, so I wanted to spruce it up with updated facts and articles. I have no financial interest in these changes. Can I please continue with my editing? I see that the improvements that I made to the opening section and text box are not reflected, and I hope those are still available to be made live. Thank you very much for your help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by CourageAllies (talk • contribs) 22:14, 22 December 2019 (UTC)

Please make the necessary declaration on your user page (see WP:DISCLOSE). Since you have a Coi, your edits should be requested on the articles talk page using WP:Edit requests. I rejected your edits for they were promotionally toned (eg. Revolutionized) and introduced external links when there shouldn’t be. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 22:18, 22 December 2019 (UTC)
Oh, I understand. I just added the tag on my userpage to add the disclosure. I will use the request edits feature from now on. I will also be more careful about avoiding a promotional tone. I'm not sure I understand the rules on where external links are desirable or not. Thank you for helping me learn.CourageAllies (talk) 22:25, 22 December 2019 (UTC)

SMA NYC page
The flag on this article was less than 12 hours old before the article was deleted. How can I get the page back so I can discuss the issues with the editors? I modeled the content on other company pages that are active on the site without any flags/warnings, so I'd like to know what I'd have to do to keep the SMA NYC page active. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BrooklandKendall (talk • contribs) 23:51, 8 January 2020 (UTC)
- Hi BrooklandKendall and welcome to Wikipedia. I do have to agree with Seraphimblade suspicions as well but if you claim that was not your intention I will believe you. The article was not ready for mainspace and you even edited the article after the tag was placed and chose to not fix the issues. I strongly recommend using WP:YFA for making a new article. This will allow experienced editors to go over the draft and make sure its an appropriate article. As well, I will add that if you have any connections to SMA NYC you must disclose it using WP:DISCLOSE per our Wikimedia Terms of Use. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 00:37, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
Speedy deletion of W2S
Hi! I just wanted to ask you about this speedy deletion, as I have a few concerns about it. The first is that my understanding is that G5 only applies when a user created a page after being blocked or banned and, although it's possible that I'm unaware of the full context and Zaydx is linked to a third account who was blocked or banned prior to the creation of W2S, from the limited information available to me from the block log and SPI, that's not the case. As it turns out, the G5 tag was itself placed by a LTA account and they were themselves blocked prior to you deleting the page - not that that necessarily justifies keeping the page, but it doesn't sit quite right with me particularly given, and this is the key point for me, there was both an AFD discussion and a talk page discussion that were leaning towards a pretty clear redirect consensus. I'm unsure if you read those prior to deleting, but I very much hope you did, in which case it would perhaps have been nice if you had commented on the AFD to explain why you felt that it was necessary to speedy delete rather than allowing the discussion to play out and implementing the redirect. I'm sure there are explanations for all of this, I just think this is one of those cases where perhaps it would be good to explain the reasoning a bit. Many thanks! Hugsyrup 10:31, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
- Hugsyrup, Scope creep hi there and thank you for dropping the note. I saw the Afd in a previous revision and mistakingly thought it was from a previous version. Thank you so much for correcting me, I apologize for this entire mess. I will redo it as a redirect as that seems to be where consensus is. In the future I will make sure to go much slower when checking revisions. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 11:16, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
- No worries at all, thank you for the quick response and fix! Hugsyrup 11:23, 9 January 2020 (UTC)

Trevor de Cleene
Hello
I'm new to all this Wikipedia stuff, but you've left me a message asking me to verify my sources.
My sources include: NZ Army WW1 Casualty Lists Trevor de Cleene's unpublished written memoirs and photos(which were handed down to me upon his death) Direct personal experience being his son, David — Preceding unsigned comment added by Magiciseverywhere (talk • contribs) 05:35, 10 January 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Magiciseverywhere and welcome to Wikipedia. I am sorry for your loss and appreciate your willingness to transcribe the documents onto Wikipedia but they must be published somewhere to be verifiable. This is because no one can fact check the source. If someone were to vandalize the page saying "this is wrong" we would have no way of knowing which is correct because no one but you can access the source. Please check out our reliable sources policy. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 05:38, 10 January 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you for your information. Then I can use the published sources of:
The Manawatu Evening Standard "The Sixteen Members of Parliament for Palmerston North, 1875-20" Geni Family Tree
- Magiciseverywhere, sure! Just make sure everything is sourced using Wikipedia:Inline citations. As well, please sign your name after you're finished typing using 4 ~. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 05:44, 10 January 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for your explanation. I don't understand how to do what you're saying so I'll have to learn or leave it for now. In the meantime, are all the edits I just made now lost because I'm not going to rewrite anything if it gets deleted so easily if I don't get the procedures exactly right. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Magiciseverywhere (talk • contribs) 05:51, 10 January 2020 (UTC)
- Magiciseverywhere It isn't lost but I wouldn't re-add it without sources. I can post it in your sandbox (User:Magiciseverywhere/sandbox) and after sources are added to every sentence (it can be the same source, just has to be accessible and reliable) you can post it back. You should also discuss it on Talk:Trevor de Cleene as this is a pretty big edit and some people may oppose some additions. As you have a conflict of interest, you should use WP:Edit requests so someone else can look it over and make sure it is neutral. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 05:59, 10 January 2020 (UTC)
I've had a go at the referencing you've requested. Is there any way I can send you through Trevor's memoirs for you to validate for yourself? Otherwise, I'll just leave it for now. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Magiciseverywhere (talk • contribs) 06:32, 10 January 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Magiciseverywhere and thank you but that still wouldn't work as it wouldn't be accessible to everyone. I am off to bed right now but if you have more questions, check out the WP:Teahouse. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 06:34, 10 January 2020 (UTC)
Dreams(video game) page editing was reverted
Hello Magiciseverywhere my username is Subtenko and I was editing the dreams page with information from the Early Access game I bought "Dreams" which has a release date of Feb 14th this year.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dreams_(video_game)
I got a message saying my changes were reverted because of 'self promotion'? Why did this happen and how? Players could buy the game early so I'm adding things like what the menus have and the submenus within the game. I was about to add picture references to the wiki page as well.
- Hi Subtenko and welcome to Wikipedia. The changes you made violated our neutral point of view policy. While I am glad you enjoy this game, adding sentences like "...an ever expansive place of of dreams from their smallest to biggest of ideas within the community" and "There is said to be a 10 year plan for Dreams so we can expect many updates!" is probably more for a forum than a Wikipedia page. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 18:19, 10 January 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Subtenko. The changes you made did not follow an encyclopedic tone. I strongly recommend checking out similar games to see how they are written.HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 18:28, 10 January 2020 (UTC)

Carol Leonnig edits
Hi, I wonder if it is possible to edit Carol's wiki page to note in the lead that she has won three Pulitzer prizes (which as documented below on the wiki page). It only mentions one which is a bit misleading? Also the box to the left should indicate that as well -- she was on the team that won in 2014. She also has a book that is being released (in the news today) and I wonder if that can be added? I don't know very much about editing and have a conflict so not sure how to improve this page, so much of it is old. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MHKelley (talk • contribs) 19:20, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
- Hi MHKelley and happy new year! I have added the Pulitzer prizes to the lead but will need to do more research on the book before adding it. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 19:26, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
