The Fortune India 500 is a ranking of the top 500 corporations in India compiled on the basis of latest sales and gross revenue figures. The list is compiled and published annually by Fortune magazine.[1] Fortune India is Fortune's sixth international edition following Fortune China, FORTUNE Turkey, Fortune Korea, Fortune Indonesia as well as special edition of FORTUNE Greece.[2][3]

Fortune India is published monthly in English, through a licensed agreement between Time Inc.,the publishers of the globally acclaimed business title and Kolkata-based ABP Group, one of India’s largest media conglomerate.[4][5] Dibyendra Nath Mukerjea is the editor of FORTUNE India and Pavan Varshnei is the President of FORTUNE India .[6] Companies are ranked by their latest annual audited total income for the financial ending on or before June 30 of the current year and the company should be a listed company.Since 2010, the list has had its current form, listing also top financial corporations and service providers by revenue.[7] Fortune India hits Indian stands in September 2010 and in October 2011,it celebrated first anniversary with double issue.

2010 list

Indian Oil Corporation topped the first-ever FORTUNE India 500 rankings and Reliance Industries was listed at No. 2. The next three places were taken by State Bank of India, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum respectively.[8]

2011 list

Oil and gas companies Indian Oil Corporation, Reliance Industries and Bharat Petroleum Corporation dominate the Fortune 500 India list for second year also.[9] Zee Entertainment Enterprises (#1 media, #256 overall), Sun TV Network (#2, #347), HT Media (#3, #383), Network 18 (#4, #413) and Dish TV (#5, #437) are in the list of media companies in the Fortune India 500 roster of India’s largest corporations.[10] Tata Consultancy Services (#1 IT, #20 overall), Wipro(#2, #25), Infosys(#3, #27), HCL Technologies Limited(#4, #49), Satyam Computer Services(#5, #153)and Tech Mahindra(#6, #161) are top IT companies of India in Fortune India 500 list.[11].Aricent Group is ranked #19 in India IT companies and overall #451 in Fortune India 500 list in 2011.
