37°50′18″S 145°01′55″E / 37.83833°S 145.03194°E Kooyong Stadium, at the Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club, is a tennis venue, located in Melbourne, Australia. The stadium was built in 1927 and has a capacity of 8,500.[1]
It was the venue for the Australian Open, whenever that tournament was held in Melbourne, becoming the permanent venue in 1972. The tournament was moved to Melbourne Park in 1988.[2] The surface was grass courts. Now a hard-court surface, remains the venue for the AAMI Classic exhibition tournament.[1]
The venue has also hosted several concerts:
- In February 1972, English rock group Led Zeppelin held a large open-air concert at the venue as part of its Australasian Tour.
- On February 17-18, 1973, The Rolling Stones played three shows there as part of their 1973 Pacific Tour.
- In January 1973, Black Sabbath performed a concert there.
- In February 1986, Bob Dylan performed three concerts there.
