Balša I was a 14th-century Serbian Lord that founded and ruled the Principality of Zeta from 1360 to 1362. He was the founder of the House of Balšić, the first dynasty of Zeta that would rule until 1421.
Balša ruled one village during the Serbian Empire, after the death of Serbian Emperor Dušan the Mighty on 20 December 1355, he slowly gains power in the Zeta region and by 1360 he gains possessions in the Scodra region and asserts independence.
He had three sons, Đurađ I, Stracimir, and Balša II, two of whom ruled Zeta: Đurađ I and Balša II. He ruled until his death in 1362.
