Winning was born and grew up in Sydney, Australia. After completing high school, she relocated to England to attend the London School of Economics (LSE).[2] In 2006, Winning moved to New York, where she led the opening of Quintessentially's New York office and worked in business development until 2009.[3] In 2012, Winning co-founded HeTexted in Silicon Valley where she served as the CEO until 2017.[4] From 2017 to 2019, Winning contributed to Forbes as a columnist on entrepreneurship and digital trends. As Floww's Chief Marketing Officer in London (2020-2022), she led marketing for the fintech startup ecosystem.[5]
Business career
[edit]In 2012, Winning co-founded HeTexted with Carrie Henderson McDermott, a former Conde Nast editor. HeTexted Inc is a Silicon Valley-based company designed to help users crowdsource advice on dating and relationships.[6] The platform allowed individuals to upload and receive feedback on text messages, with users able to vote on interpretations through options like "He's Into You," "He's Not Into You," or "The Verdict is Still Out." The idea for HeTexted arose from Winning's observation of friends frequently analyzing text conversations with men.[7] HeTexted gained traction, attracting over 200,000 users in its first day and averaging three new users per minute.[8] Its popularity led to media coverage, including appearances on Good Morning America, CNN, The Guardian, All Things Digital, and Today.[2] Following the growth of HeTexted, Winning secured book deals with Penguin Random House in the UK and Simon & Schuster in the US, as well as film rights acquired by Greg Berlanti for Warner Bros.[8][9] The acquisition led to an expansion into SheTexted, aimed at helping men decode women’s messages.[10]
In 2020, Winning collaborated with Martijn De Wever, the founder and CEO of Floww, to create a media channel centered on founder-led content. Floww focuses on blending insights from the startup ecosystem with interviews and strategies from diverse entrepreneurs.[11]
Publications
[edit]Winning co-authored He Texted: The Ultimate Guide to Decoding Guys, which provides advice on navigating digital dating dynamics. The book offers tips on interpreting text messages, social media cues, and managing digital communication, aimed at empowering readers to navigate modern relationships with confidence.[12]
