English: Obesity in dogs is assessed with the “body condition score” (BCS), which ranges from 1 to 9, where “1” indicates a severely underweight animal and a “9” indicates severe obesity. A BCS of 4-5 is considered ideal for dogs – this equates to an animal with a tapered waist, ribs that you cannot see but can easily feel without much of a fat pad, and an abdomen that is tucked upwards when viewed from the sides.
