The 82nd Golden Globe Awards is an upcoming awards ceremony for excellence in film and American television productions of 2024. The winners will be revealed during a live telecast, aired on CBS on January 5, 2025, which will be hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser.[1]
The nominations were announced live on December 9, 2024, at a press conference at The Beverly Hilton by actors Morris Chestnut and Mindy Kaling, following an introduction from Golden Globes president, Helen Hoenhe.[2] Emilia Pérez, with ten nominations, became the most nominated comedy or musical film in Golden Globes history, just one shy of the overall record of eleven, set by Nashville in 1975.[3] The Brutalist received the second-most in film with seven nominations, followed by Conclave with six.[4] Meanwhile, The Bear led television nominations with five, followed by Shōgun and Only Murders in the Building with four each.[5]
Ceremony information
[edit]On August 28, 2024, comedian Nikki Glaser was announced as the host for this year's ceremony, following last year's widely criticized host, comedian Jo Koy.[1] Glaser herself is nominated for Best Performance in Stand-up Comedy on Television for her comedy special, Someday You'll Die.[5]
The ceremony will be held at 8 P.M. EST / 5 P.M. PST on January 5, 2025. It will be broadcast live on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.[2] Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner of White Cherry Entertainment will return from last year to executive produce the ceremony, along with Dick Clark Productions.[2]
On December 3, 2024, it was announced that the two Lifetime Achievement Awards, which were not presented last year, would return this year; however, they will be presented during an untelevised gala dinner on January 3, 2024, prior to the telecast, similar to the Academy Awards' Governors Awards. The recipient of the Cecil B. DeMille Award will be Viola Davis, while the Carol Burnett Award will be awarded to Ted Danson.[6]
This year's nominations were tabulated by KPMG, an audit, tax, and advisory firm.[2] Netflix reserved a total of 36 nominations between film and television, the most of any distributor.[7]
Emilia Pérez star Karla Sofía Gascón made history as the first transgender actress to be nominated for a Golden Globe in a leading film role, in the Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy category.[8] Jacques Audiard, the director and writer of the film, was also the most nominated individual, with a total of three nominations: Best Director, Best Screenplay, and co-lyricist of Best Original Song nominee "El Mal".[5]
