Thomas Kilgore was the founder of Cross Plains, Tennessee.

Thomas Kilgore was born in 1715 in present-day Virginia. Kilgore served in the American Revolutionary War, and many have said that he fought in the Battle of Kings Mountain. However historians have disputed this claim, saying that Kilgore served as the Quartermaster for the Commission surveying the District for North Carolina Revolutionary War soliders.[1] In early 1779, Kilgore brought friends and family to an area by the Red River and made a small town called Kilgore Station (which eventually became Cross Plains).[2] Thomas Kilgore died at 108 in 1823 during a trip to Gallatin, Tennessee. In 2007, The new park in Cross Plains was named after him.
