Kongsberg Satellite Services AS (KSAT) is a Norwegian based company. They are a world-leading provider of ground network services and maritime monitoring services.

The headquarters is in Tromsø, Norway, with sales offices in Oslo, Stockholm and Mountain View, California. At Longyearbyen, Svalbard, KSAT has the world’s biggest commercial ground station.

KSAT was established in 2002, but the journey began already in 1967 when the Tromsø Telemetry Station was inaugurated. Today the company’s mission is to be the world’s leading commercial satellite center.

By the end of 2018 KSAT had approximately 200 employees.

Services provided by KSAT includes services for satellite operations and earth observation; TT&C, data acquisition and communications solutions, hosting and maintenance services, LEOP – launch vehicle, satellite and sounding rocket support.

In 2018, KSATLITE, a dedicated unit at KSAT was established to meet the increasing demand for services in the New Space-market.

The company’s global ground network consists of more than 140 antennas at 21 sites worldwide, this provides optimized locations for satellites in polar, inclined and equatorial orbits. Everything is remotely monitored and controlled and from the HQ’s network operations center in Tromsø.

Ownership KSAT is owned equally (50/50) by Space Norway AS (50%), and Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace AS (50%).

Company Certifications

  • Achilles Certification: KSAT provides services to the oil industry, hereof all phases in the life cycle of a field. KSAT is therefore qualified within the Achilles Joint Qualification System for suppliers to the Oil Industry in Norway and Denmark.
  • ISO 9001:2005 Certification: KSAT is a service company where quality in the deliveries are extremely important. KSAT has operated a Quality Management System (QMS) certified according to the ISO 9001 standard since 2003. The Quality System is ISO 9001:2015 certified.
