Stephen Coen is a Gaelic footballer for the Mayo senior team and also plays club football for Hollymount-Carramore. He replaced Lee Keegan as a substitute in the 2016 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final in the second half when Keegan received a black card. He again came on a substitute for Colm Boyle in the second half of the 2017 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final.

Despite of All-Ireland disappointment in the senior ranks, Coen has lead both Mayo Minors and Mayo U-21s to All-Ireland success as captain in 2013 and 2016, respectively. The luck of captaining a team to All-Ireland success has continued with Coen captaining the UCD senior team to winning the [Sigerson Cup|2017/18 Sigerson Cup]].
