Shanthi Krishna is an Indian dancer and film actress known for her leading roles in Malayalam cinema along with a few Tamil films. She was a popular lead actress of the 1980s and 1990s. She won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actress for her performance as Sharadammini in Chakoram (1994).

Early life

She is born to R. Krishan and Sharada in a Tamil Brahmin Iyer family in Mumbai. Her mother tongue is Tamil. She completed her education in Mumbai S.I.E.S College and General Education Academy. She has three brothers, Sreeram, Satheesh and Suresh Krissna who is a film director. She was a known dancer and debuted to film field with Salini Ente Kootukari in 1980.[1][2][3]

Career

Shanthi's debut was in the Malayalam movie Nidra (1981), directed by Bharatan. The same year, she also acted in her first Tamil film Paneer Pushpangal.[4] She quit film industry after her first marriage, but made a comeback in 1991 in the movie Nayam Vyakthamakkunnu[5]. She won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actress for her performance in Chakoram (1994). Since 1997, she had stopped following Malayalam movies[6]. She has served as the jury member in Malayalam film awards[7]. She made a second comeback in 2017 with the movie Njandukalude Nattil Oridavela.

Personal life

Shanthi Krishna was married to Malayalam actor Sreenath in 1984 and later divorced him in 1995. In 1998, Shanthi Krishna married Sadasivan Bajore, the secretary of Rajiv Gandhi Group of Institutions.[8] The couple divorced in 2016.[9][10] They have two children, Mithul and Mithali. She has lived in the U.S, and currently resides at R.T. Nagar Bangalore.[11][12]
