Welcome to the Lacrosse WikiProject. We are a group dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of the sport of lacrosse.

(For more information on WikiProjects, please see Wikipedia:WikiProject and the Guide to WikiProjects).

Goals

The goal of this project is to organize the efforts of those working on articles about and concerning the sport of lacrosse, including both field and box / indoor lacrosse.

Different kinds of lacrosse

Leagues

  • All professional or highest level of play lacrosse leagues should have pages describing (or at least listing) the teams, former teams, champions and past champions, awards, etc. Some of these may be on separate pages.

Teams

  • All teams should have pages, including years of existence, championships won, any franchise movement, etc.

Players

  • Player pages should include the year(s) that the player has played, which team(s) he/she played for (in as many leagues as possible), and should include stats (at least for NLL and MLL) if possible.
  • There is now an infobox ({{Infobox Lacrosse Player}}) that should be used on all player pages
  • Any participation in international lacrosse should be mentioned as well.

Other

  • We should have pages on all of the different tournaments and championships - Mann Cup, Minto Cup, NCAA, Heritage Cup, other international tournaments. Some of these already exist.

Assessment class

The assessment system allows the WikiProject to monitor the quality of articles in its subject areas, and to prioritize work on these articles. The following guidelines can help to determine what class should be assigned to an article. The class should be filled in on the "class" parameter of the {{Lacrosse}} template on the article's talk page.

For further details, please see Wikipedia:WikiProject Lacrosse/Assessment.

Open tasks

  • Expand women's lacrosse article. Include description of positions (cover point, 1-3 home, etc.), penalties section should be prose, & an explanation of equipment differences, etc.
  • Expand existing articles on MLL teams.
  • Expand existing articles on Canadian summer box lacrosse leagues (OLA, WLA, and MSL) and teams (history, records, etc.).
  • Create pages for inductees and teams/associations referenced in US Hall of Fame & Canadian Hall of Fame.
  • Possibly create page similar to List of family relations in the National Lacrosse League for HOF members
  • Organize international lacrosse articles.
  • Create NLL Team Season articles: currently all NLL teams' seasons from 2005 to current have been created.(credit: MrBoo) The Toronto Rock seasons & Philadelphia Wings seasons articles for each season since inception have been completed.
  • Expand Florida Gators women's lacrosse and their coach Amanda O'Leary
  • NLLInsider's Paul Tutka ran a series of his Top 50 Players currently in the NLL. Here are the player's that do not have articles on Wikipedia Anybody looking to create an article for a current NLL player, here is a nice place to start:
No. 49 Jon Sullivan (lacrosse) Minnesota Swarm; # 45 Bruce Murray (lacrosse) Colorado Mammoth;# 41 Jeff Shattler Calgary Roughnecks;# 39 Scott Ranger Calgary Roughnecks;# 37 Sean Pollock Minnesota Swarm;# 31 Chris White (lacrosse) Buffalo Bandits;# 24 Andy Secore Edmonton Rush;# 15 Scott Self Edmonton Rush. Fair use template for logos

Note that logos (teams, leagues, etc.) require a "Fair use" tag and rationale. Here's the page from Image:BaltimoreThunder.png as an example:

{{Non-free media rationale
|Description = Logo of the [[Baltimore Thunder]] lacrosse team (now defunct)
|Source         = http://www.logoserver.com/MILLNLL.html
|Article        = Baltimore Thunder
|Portion        = Entire image
|Purpose        = for fair use:
*This image is a low-resolution image of the logo.
*This image does not limit the copyright holder's ability to profit from the original source, nor will it dilute the importance or
recognition of the logo in connection with its organization.
*This image enhances the article in which it's displayed, as it provides an immediate means of visual identification of the subject to
the reader more capably than the textual description alone.
*Use of the logo visually identifies the organization in a manner that mere prose cannot, and meets all criteria in WP:NFCC.
|Resolution     = Yes
|Replaceability = Not replaceable
}}

{{Non-free logo|lacrosse-logos}}

Please add {{Lacrosse}} to the talk page of any and all lacrosse-related pages that you edit. You should also add class and importance parameters, described above.

Roster templates

There are two player templates; one for actual rosters and another for lists.

The {{Lacrosse player}} template should be used for rosters and roster templates, where the {{Lacrosse player list}} template should be used for lists.

The roster template is the same as the {{Player}} template, but has additional optional fields for captains, alternate captains, unrestricted free agents and franchise players.

The list template was originally copied from {{fs start}} et al., but those templates are specific to soccer, and they linked the positions to pages about the soccer positions. There was also no "transition" position, and the soccer term "goalkeeper" is usually "goaltender" in lacrosse. I removed the links so now you can put in any position you want. We can add the links again later if we want, since these are now lacrosse-specific.

{{Lacrosse player start}}
{{Lacrosse player list | no=num | pos=pos | nat=Canada | name=name | other=other }}
{{Lacrosse player mid}}
{{Lacrosse player end}}

Which looks like this:

No. Position Player
num Canada pos name (other)
