Vanessa Parise is an American director,[1][2] actress,[3] writer, producer and actress born in NYC, NY.[4][5] Her first feature film Kiss the Bride won the Golden Starfish Award at the Hamptons Film Festival.[6][7] Her television movies, Perfect High and Eat Slay Love have earned Lifetime’s Broad Focus Recognition [8] Parise has been nominated for Leo Awards for Best Direction in 2015[9] and 2016.[10]
Career
Parise has directed multiple episodes of the hit Amazon series JUST ADD MAGIC, for which the network chose her episode to represent the series for Emmy consideration.[citation needed] She has also directed the new Terri Minsky series Andi Mack.[11] Born in NYC and raised in Rhode Island, Parise ended her pursuit of a medical degree at Harvard Med to venture into the business as actor/writer/director/producer on the feature film Kiss the Bride, now in its tenth year as a hit on Showtime, Lifetime, Starz and the CW.[12] According to Variety, “Parise found her passion for directing at the crossroads of acting and attending medical school, ultimately deferring the latter to attend New York City’s Circle in the Square Acting Conservatory. With her acting background, Parise focuses on working closely with talent to help find the tone of the film that works best.[4]” Parise followed this, again as actor/writer/director/producer, with her feature film JACK AND JILL VS THE WORLD.[13] She has directed the television movies UNAUTHORIZED BEVERLY HILLS 90210 STORY,[14] PERFECT HIGH, and STATUS UNKNOWN. As a writer, Vanessa has sold multiple spec features including BFF.[15] As Script Magazine describes, “Her films Kiss the Bride and Jack and Jill vs. the World hit the indie world with a bang, but what she really wanted to do was get a TV show on the air.…The New Twenty hit the market, and she soon discovered she had not one but two offers.”[citation needed] Parise sold the pilot script THE NEW TWENTY to Freeform.[16]
Awards
Vanessa received a 2016 Leo Nomination for Best Direction of PERFECT HIGH [10] and a 2015 Leo Nomination for Best Direction of #POPFAN.[9] She was honored by Lifetime with their Broad Focus Top 5 Original Movies 2015[8] and by SheKnows as one of Ten Female Directors Breaking Stereotypes 2014[17]. Vanessa’s feature film KISS THE BRIDE (Alyssa Milano, Talia Shire, Parise) won the Hamptons Film Festival’s prestigious Golden Starfish Award for Best Feature.[citation needed] At Cinequest, Vanessa won the Director’s Award.[citation needed] She also won the Excellence In Filmmaking Award at Sarasota,[citation needed] Best Actress and Best Score at Montecarlo,[18] and Best Feature at RIFF.[citation needed] Vanessa’s short film Lo and Jo also made the festival circuit, winning multiple awards including the Merit Award at New England[19] and Best Narrative Short at Newport[20].
