A tag has been placed on your user page, User:YCityBarbershoppers, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be blatant advertising which only promotes or publicises a company, product, group or service, and which is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages; user pages are intended for active editors of Wikipedia to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources. Please read the guidelines on spam, the guidelines on user pages, and, especially, our FAQ for Organizations.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. There have been two problems identified with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.

Request reason:

There is no reason to block the page. Like many pages on Wikipedia, this page is designed to be informative. It informs those interested in barbershop singing of the opportunity to do so. We are a chapter of the larger non-profit organization Barbershop Harmony Society which is on Wikipedia for the same reason. We are just posting a historical account of our chapter's origin and purpose. The chapter provides singing opportunities for average folks and allocates our resources for students to have opportunities they would not have otherwise. At no point was this page designed to advertise. The intent, if anyone actually bothers to read it, would clearly indicate that it is meant as an informative resource. Is that not the purpose of Wikipedia? You have pages for performers, writers, organizations and such with website links, album releases, etc. Our page is text only, with a website link in case people were hoping to learn more. A feature many pages have. We are not promoting a product or service. The image to be uploaded was going to be our logo. I was having trouble finding things on this site. The page is not designed to make money, nor is our chapters focus on making money. Any funds we do raise as an organization goes to providing music for the group to sing and educational scholarships for students who lack funds. I ask Wikipedia to reconsider, I ask the administrators Materialscientist and Cahk to reconsider their opinions and I ask for a review regarding aggressive blocking.

Decline reason:

The page isn't blocked. You are. You need to read WP:USERNAME, for a start. Then WP:GROUP about notability for groups, and with it WP:RS about the reliable independent sources needed to prove notability. Wikipedia isn't like Facebook, where anyone can have a page, and it isn't a directory either. I would point out that chapters of larger organisations rarely pass the notability requirements. I do agree that your userpage read fairly neutrally. But a user page isn't for spreading info. User pages are for people working on the encyclopaedia to tell us a bit about themselves, if they wish. They aren't free web space, or articles. This blocking was not aggressive - it was standard procedure as user names that appear to represent organisations are not allowed here. Accounts are for individuals only. Peridon (talk) 19:49, 7 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
